I'd agree with that on most of the actual 'pop' genre but those artists generally have much shorter runs and it still does not discount the classics listed.

It all depends on social trends. Back in the day, men wore platform shoes, nowdays that's laughable to downright social suicide.

There's good music which lasts only until the style does, and then there's long term classics. Look at Elvis, how long has his music been around for? Louis Armstrong, his stuff has been around so long. Otis Redding is yet another one.

there you go again (purposefully?) ignoring the most famous bands of all time that have already been mentioned.

thats your opinion and how can you say 'its about music not bands' incase you didnt notice bands make music and *GASP* good bands are usually considered good and get famous because they make good music, a shocker I know but its true.

this isnt about personal opinion, if we're on a which is better overall we have to generalise and that means popularity wins over your individual view ergo england wins.

I will if you can give me a reason why time periods signify better music

    EDIT: a GOOD reason

there is such a thing as modern classics, you cannot discount them because they havent been around long enough to fit your narrow quotas, therefore your time constraints are a flawed method of judging comparitive music quality if anything.

well considering that 'modern classics' have not been around long enough to deserve the title of a long lasting classic... a masterpiece needs time, certainly in the music industry...

I fail to see how time has any effect of the quality of music besides the degredation of recording mediums, which is my point.

a masterpiece must be able to survive time...

any eejit could like a song/artist... but 20 years later they could be nothing!

Yes but such logic is flawed when comparing music that has not reached your 60 year limit, you cant say artists can only be considered great 60 years after their songs were made its ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure a masterpiece is a masterpiece right when it's made, it doesn't just magically become great when it becomes such and such an age.
