Neither heaven nor the real world was so twisted or so endless, filled with shrouded darkness and looming dread.

Shadows of eternity fused with morbid sorrow, the dead place between the black soil and the grey sky. The place with no name trapped in the dawn of the end of days.

We call it hell, because there is no word left to mankind more apt.

History has failed us, but once, long ago when this place had a name it was beautiful, the grandest city in all the world, one could walk for days and never touch its edge, towering palaces that touched the sky, gardens that sung in the light of the day, streets paved with every colour. Now all wretched ruin, destroyed of befouled, rubble and the bones of the dead filling every crevice, all grey under the low light of the evening, and twisted burning bright in the day.

There is no night, but we all know it will come soon.

How we came to this end, this futile conflict none live who know, but it is the end of all things, war has destroyed all else. Now only hell remains, and we fight every day to survive because that is the only thing we know. We know not hope, nor love, nor the sound o laughter. We are the damned, and we have no future.

Okay so, first thoughts, very morbid, that’s how we roll with this one.

Basically it’s an apocalyptic RPG, set in a city with no end, only a few thousand people are left alive who are at constant war over the last remnants of supplies that can be found. Basically, the world coming to an end and no one is done fighting.

I haven’t exactly decided on the full setting of this, whether it is set after the apocalypse of a) modern day earth b) future earth c) a fantasy world or d) future fantasy world. I like a and b because of guns, but c and d are good because we have numerous races, that can be banded together to try and be the last ones left, kinda genocide ish.

    There are a few ideas for factions left in the city, that can apply to all settings;

    • The Legion of dead men: the last true military presence, who have maintained order where all others disbanded in the chaos of the bleak future. The legion are strictly regimented and disciplinary, to maintain order all crimes, mutiny and insubordination are punishable by death, the General, their leader, without a cause merely seeks to kill everything left alive that does not follow him. They take captives, who are given a choice to join or die, and even after joining, they are tortured into obedience, so they know their place.
    • The Covenant: the few who retain their faith after judgement day, who seek the unification of all peoples so they may please god enough to be spared. If this required the death of unbelievers, so be it.
    • Shadowspawn: the children of the night, stealthy and deadly, they keep their edge over the opposition by never being seen and killing only when they must, thieves and assassins.
    • Fury: A cabal of brutal killers, disorganised but just as deadly as the other factions, they loot and burn, it is all they know. They are the only major rival to the legion.
    • The lesser gangs, groups who work together because they are too weak alone.

This may be more apt for a kingdom than an rpg, but ill let you guys debate over that, so any takers?

World is coming to an end?

You mean there is no chance of growing crop or anything? Wow that's pretty futile :S

    Interesting though...

    Nope, no crops.

especially since (this is an idea stolen from a few other places) the city where this takes place seems to have no end, it goes on and on forever. I mean, we could have some groups trying to cultivate small gardens on rooftops or in old parks but theyve be under contant raiding, and the soil would be very poor.

One of the key themes in he environment which is a ruined rubble filled city, where there is only night, jut grey evening for most of the time and the rest is a harsh hazy burning sunlight.

Here, one of the sources this was 'liberated' from is a ebcomic i was reading, my old banner set, the other with the spoon came from there, this should be required reading for the comic. this of it as similar but more classic mad max style than the almost video game 3 sides in the comic. think of the fw hours of daylight in this rpg to be the 'world burning'

    http://www.blastwavecomic.com/index.php

this comes up on the most recent issue, theres only 32, they dont come out very often.

Well at the moment I'm leading towarss option E (the one i didnt post)

which is a contempory fantasy setting, so we get the benefits of both worlds, we get numerous races that can be used to form factions as well as modern technology like guns, whil being set in a modern city in a fantasy world, some areas will ahve ruined skyscrapers but expect more of a european style ruined city than a high-rise one.

now when I say we get guns you have to remember that its not an excuse to shoot around. as mentioned, the setting is the time just before the end of the world, after countless wars have decimated the planet so all thats left is ruined city. that means guns, are hard to come by and ammo even moreso, any special guns like rocket launchers or magnums etc would have long since used up all ammo (in most cases) the only stuff left would be the generic 9mm or 5.56 (handgun ammo or army ammo) and that will be hard to come by, dont exect to have a character to have a whole clip of ammo to themselves, more like 3 shots for the whole thing. so the fallback is on melee weapons anyway.

...with the exception of the legion who have been stockpiling ammo, each of their squads is equipped with one gun with a full clip, and the higher ups have more specialised weapons due to privelidge.

i'm also favouring making this into a kingdom rather than an RPG, so it has more of a laid back pace, we're not under the demand of a central plot, you can fight to survive if you want, or you can try and accomplish something.

Sorry, you dont exactly need them though, everything pretty much a ruin anyway, its just wasteful on people.

Another thing to mention, kinda irrelevant but goes with solidfying the biew of the setting. Since theres no night, just 2/3 of the day are low evening light and the rest is burning bright (fantasy world, probably due to multiple suns and wacky orbits, doesnt matter) then the world is going to be pretty hot, think tropic temperatures, a little cooler in the evening time, but in the bright day very hot.
