well the pictures dont lie Mububban.
and according to what i've seen, at least two elves (other than legolas of course) lived through the battle.
Hey when I said I didn't mean that guy riding to the left of the flag bearer was neccesarily a Lorien Elf I meant it coulda been Legolas(even though I did see Legoals shift to the King's left side as he charged out of the keep) Because even with zoom and slow-mo I wasn't a hundred percent sure that that first guy on the white horse was Legolas. Because of course from the back the only thing that would distinguish a Lorien Elf from Legolas would be Legolas's Knives, oh and his arrows. It didn't look to me like the Lorien Elf was riding with a curved blade...(of course that wouldn't be too suprising, EWS's were definately NOT made for riding.)
Mr. Spirit of fire, rolemodel(l?) for every psycho freak worldwide, tirant of poor younger brothers, bane of every sense of elvanity (humans didn't exist at that time),
At least my girl didn't run of,
try and beat that.
In the original script, Arwen came to helms deep along with Haldirs bunch. this was cut out after these scenes were shot so you're looking at one of the cut-outs.
You were right, I am indeed the smart one.
Thats Legolas "evil twin brother"
we've got some greenleaf family issues here!!!
well, in the pic legolas's horse wore some kind of mantle over his head (it might just be a pre-production pic or a pic from a different sequence of the film, but im half-ass sure its from the "charge of the white brigade" scene), and neither of the horses in the stills above are wearing a mantle (at least that i can see-and my vision is top knotch). so i dont think either one is legolas.
Well, my DVD layer in my PC ain't the greatest, but here are some screencaps that I reviewed several times, and I can only see one helm-less Elf, and that's our boy Leggy. I believe there are about 9 "suicide" riders - Theoden, Aragorn, a Rohirrim wearing what looks to be a chainmail coif and not a helmet (maybe this lead to some confusion?), Legolas, a banner bearer, and a handful of Royal Guards bringing up the rear.
Here are some screencaps I made:
Legolas rode a white horse with a leather mantle, and yes he uses a stock Rohan sword. And he's the only rider I can see with long hair without a helmet, and a quiver on his back. I don't think any extra elves are riding out with Theoden, especially as I think it would completely go against PJ's theme of those particular elves sacrificing themselves.
Well, that's what my bad vision sees. Anyone else want to stir the pot?
I agree that it would be completely unlogical for any Galadhrim soldier to accompany any suicide mission whatsoever.
well this is strange isnt it but i heard that arwen is still in that shot...
Yes, I saw a few screenshots of that.
Search for her in the melee that followed the sortie.
Well folks ive searched and searched but no Arwen! And the elf beside the standered bearer is Legolas the supposed elf who rides by the king is our person!
well they originally planned to make Arwen fight at Helmsdeep, and there were some images of it. There were even Gondorian soldiers first. But they abandonned the idea.
And Mububban - I completely agree with you, that's what I've been thinking all the time. If you look carefully, on the second picture, you can see Legolas' knives.
there were some elves that got in, you can see a few of then helping with the last defence
all thoose poor elven lives for no good
(in some frames you can see a piece of Arwens cloth or so that they didn't manage to remove, but it's very hard to spot)
Back when LotR was backed by Miramax, Arwen was at Helm's Deep. That's where the footage came from. But with Miramax, there was only going to be two movies, so PJ left and was picked up by New Line.
Also, when Legolas rode out, it would have been pretty hard to kill Uruk's with his little knives from on top of a horse, so he picked up a sword.
