Yeah I know, there are still elven survivors on that moment. But all of them die before they withdraw to the hall.

I always took it for granted that all elves died but maybe there
are some left who are hiding in the caves or something, to be kicked out by the dwarves who are gonna live there later on.
Kinda sad if you realize that during their hiding period they
missed the 'last' ship to valinor.

well I thought for a long period there was another Elf in the charge of the last survivors, but it isn't. And if there were some, they would fight too, don't you think so? :p btw, on the EE there will be some cave-scenes, like Eowyn finishing off some orcs. Maybe this will give us some evidence :p

I think it's such a waste of Elves.. I don't know why but I would rather see humans die than Elves.. Pathetic, I know...

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I was truely shocked when Haldir got slaughtered... I thought, nah, Peter J couldn't that cruel! How do you think Gimli will react when he hears that Haldir is dead? Pretty bad, I think considering his comment to Haldir in Lorien!

to give the defenders more hope.. because Eomer wasn't there, because Erkenbrand wasn't there... and 300 against 10000 is a bit unfair... so propably PJ thought "lets get some Elves at Helmsdeep. And if they all die, it will not change anything to the storyline" :p

He's a character of not much use. Introducing him would cost more time. So if they used Eomer, they shouldn't waist any time.

yeah yeah yeah all true, but meanwhile we're stuck with a dead Haldir. If someone had to die then I wish they had included erkenbrand in the movies so they could let him hit the bucket.

I mean come on. that poor elf travels all across Rohan along with his homies just to come to the aid of that bad shaven ranger, insolent dwarf and some festering bad-cut humans. only to be seeking for the halls of Mandos as quickly as possible after his well dressed entree and saying ample lines to the grumpy old fart they dare to call king. ( all emotional here) Now I don't think that's quite what Haldir had in mind when climbing out of his well-beloved tree
to set out now, don't you?

I think they should've just left the elves out of Helms all together cause thats how Tolkien wrote it and wanted it.

I was extremely disappointed that Elves were sacrificed in TTT, though it was a nice touch on Peter Jackson's part to revive the alliance that was once thought dead.

But like most of you, I wished they were kept out of Helm's Deep so that the movie could be accurate to the original novel. I almost boycotted the movie because of the slaughtered Elves. (Hee hee hee) My first reaction was "Look at the humans hiding in the keep, while the Elves are fighting hand to hand on the ground to protect the humans. Why can't the humans die and save the Elves!?!"

On a side note: I was also disappointed that Eowyn went to Helm's Deep in the movie and not the book.

And did anyone else think Theoden was too arrogant at Helm's Deep when he said "Is that all that you can conjure, Saruman? Is this all you got?" (or something like this) I didn't recall Theoden being arrogant in the novels.

I think the movie Theoden was cocky and hard headed, a plain pain in the ass.
I first planned to boycot the entire movie trilogy from the moment on I heard they were made.
A nice plan, I thought. But it lasted only until the movies went into premiere. ( which says nothing nice about my strength of will)

Okay I severely doubt all the Elves got slaughtered at Helm's deep, even though too many died for my taste(yeah I had had enough of elves dieing when that first one got hit by a crossbow bolt on the wall), here is my reasoning.

    1. While it was a crappy retreat as we saw I severly doubt that only a dozen men survived out of the thousand that originally defended the Hornburg. Come on I know PJ likes killing people but that's too extreme.

2.When the inner Keep's door gets busted in, right before Theoden charges, you see Gamling the Old, which suggests they left men, and Elves, behind to protect the women and children.

    3. Who charges out with twelve guys and leaves the hundreds of women and children undefended and very easily able to be killed? It's just not good strategy.

So that's why I think there were still some Elves alive.

I also think PJ added in the Elves just to make Legolas happy, you remember don't you. Legolas is sitting on the edge of the Keep whetting his knife, talking to Gimli and says,"The Rohan are good bowmen for their part, but there are too few of them if only I had some of my folk here", or something along those lines. BTW if your gonna put elves in the movie at least make them good fighters like they deserve to be. Sure they showed the Elves as the awesome archers they were, but as soon as it got to hand to hand they just let the Uruks pimpslap the Elves like were they school children defending themselves with compass points.

Anyway yeah sorry for kind of rambling....
