but Weis and Hickman took care to explain things in the middle. with a movie it'll be harder to do that. they mention the Cataclysam (dont think I spelled that right) in almost every book.

but it's a good idea to have someone tell the story instead of copying LOTR. they could have Fizban/old man explain it to the children at the Inn, and use images to accompany his words.

I think they might have a hard time doing 'Solace' to be what we imagine it from the books. They would have to tread very lightly I think in the making of sets etc.
And I can picture Draconians being rather difficult too. They'd probably end up looking too much like aliens.

I think using a relatively new cast of actors may do some justice to this movie. By doing this, we will not have any preconceived ideas of past movies or characters they were once tied to. Granted, we would cringe at the sight of campy or overdramatic actors, but I am sure with the right guidance, this may be a great direction to follow. I would admit that Jason Isaacs would be a good man for Raistlin, but I feel he is a bit too old for the job. Raistlin during the War of the Lance was in his mid 20s, no?

That is correct Exigent. However, Raist was extremely frail etc. I think an older casting for him would work better than younger. Especially what make-up can do these days.

What Characters and Creatures would be done by CGI ?

Tasslehoff is an enigma and would be extremely hard to cast

I can't think of anyone that it would suit. I think the hardest part is that while being a slenderish and rather small being with a child like body, his age does show on his face.

With the success of Gollum would a CGI Tasslehoff work ?

When I try to picture a CGI done Tas, I picture that feral smelly knome thing out of the Labyrinth. I haven't a clue as to why, but I do. Tas would be extremely difficult.

If a they do make a DL movie I hope it is more fantasy influanced then what LOTR was.

I think LOTR was too realistic in how it showed the magic and some of the fight sceans where to choppy and was hard to make out what was going on, This worked for LOTR but I dont think it would for DL.
For me I think it made the movies a bit boring.

Gandolf was shown as more as a fighter then mage he could of used more magic in battles (like in the video game)and the fight with Gandolf Vs saraman sucked.

With DL I hope they stick with how the magic in the books are described.

Also I hope that The Dragons are shown the way they look in the DL art and on books, The way Dragons are shown on movies are stupied.

If done correctly DL movies are a pot of gold waiting to discovered

So make sure we all buy up as many copies as possible, and it is a shoo in that the movie get's made.

I think the comics leave a lot to be desired, although they are a good read.

^ I agree. The comics, while being entertaining, don't have half of the substance that the actual novels have. It's really hard to get into the books, then turn to the comics as you realise how much is missing.

HI I'm new here. Only now have I read the Chronicles and I would think that it is one of the best fantasy series of all time.

As is often the case, our minds tend to attach faces to characters and inevitably we associate hollywood faces with them. Having read some of you guys' posts, I must admit that uncannily, it seems we all pretty much have the same ideas of who should be cast as whom. I hope to share some of my opinions and I hope none of you are too offended by them (Or shocked!).

Tanis - Definitely Ewan Mcgregor or Brendan Fraser
Raistlin - Only Johnny Depp has the depth
Caramon - Yeah maybe kevin sorbo (or a heavily made up Depp since they're twins)
Laurana - Paris Hilton (don't stone me! though she might not be able to handle this role, she looks the part )
    Goldmoon - Catherine Zeta Jones
Riverwind - I suddenly have this wicked idea that the Que Shu could be asians - and Yao Ming here would be perfect!
    Tas - Owen Wilson (!)
    Kitiara - Angelina Jolie is a shoo-in
Fizban - Harrison Ford or Bill Nighy
    Alhana - Judith Godrech

The rest are hard to cast. Hope my choice of Tas sits well with everyone... But I hope that more unknowns are used, and that the characterisations are not lost in favour of CGI and $$. LoTR blended everything with a great script and great casting. May DL be better!

Great choices NR...but Paris? Aaarrrggghhhhh. Isn't Laurana meant to evolve into someone beyond a naive child? Heheh *Gets out stones* ;)

5 years ago I was the only Depp fan I knew. Now poeple think he can play Don Corleone in Gofather 4. Why does everyone think has this kind of range? Im afraid Depp would make him Raistlin Scissorhands.

    Paris Hilton?

Asian is genius though... Rick Yune would be a better choice than Yao Ming, and Zyang Ziyi for Goldmoon.

I have to support this question. Depp isn't the best thing in the world. I know countless actors that I consider better than he is.

Exactly. Depp is overrated. I'd be upset if he were cast in a DL flick.

I think Damian Lewis, from Band of Brothers and Dreamcatcher would make an awesome Tanis.
Billy Crudup, from Almost Famous, would be a good Sturm.
I would get unknowns to play Raistlin and Caramon. A famous actor in that gold make up would just take away from the experience of the movie, but I do like the idea of using the same actor for both characters.
Dianne Kruger, Helen from Troy, would be perfect as Laurana.
Where Tas, Goldmoon, and Riverwind are concerned, I am at a loss.
WETA should handle all aspects of the costumes, as well as the special effects.

    :dragon:

One MAJOR mistake I see people do all over the place is compare Lord of the Rings with other Fantasy. I find this wrong, mainly because LOTR is an Epic style Fantasy story(And Classic), similar to Wheel of Time. I think that DL and Fr are more Adventure/action orientated. That is why I like DL more than any other Fantasy I have read (Except for LOTR which I do not compare)

The movie idea is AWESOME! and yes, done right I belive it could rock! I am worried though, as it seems the movie industry ppl are a bunch of ill-informed, dimwitted imbeciles when it comes to making Fantasy movies (see Dungeons and Dragons, or almost ANY Fantasy movie)

I also agree with an earlier statement about how they should cast New actors to play the roles.

probably 4 movies, covering Chronicles and Legends would be good and they could start off with Fizban telling stories and starting with the Legend of Huma(just a quick one to give a feel for Dragons and how they were banned from Krynn, this would help the awe of them comming back)
So remember, Adventure/Action Fantasy, NOT EPIC like LOTR.
