Tolkiens defination of of trolls is vastly different between The Hobbit and LOTR, The Hobbit was more of a childs book so he made the trolls have softer and more intelligent form. In lotr trolls are much more beast or monster like and I don't think they had specific names.... Unless they were name of rank, like orcs used.

No the trolls in the obbit were woodland trolls.

Tolkien was really just messing around when he wrote the hobbit, I don't think he quite had trolls down yet. And he was always putting in obscure characters that have name that don't fit.

I mean you have all this super wierd Elvish and Gondorian stuff and then weird corny names like bill huggins, and tom bombadil, and bill ferny. He was just messing around with the hobbit, its success suprised the hecl out of him.
