    Re: diffrent lightsabers

There was a concept of Plo Koon in "art of revenge" where he had a glove with two short ligthsaber blades attached too next to each other. The idea wasn't used tho

Sora Bulq, one of Count Dooku's Dark Jedi...one of the lost twenty....he uses one long-bladed lightsaber and one short...kinda like a knife to fight with.

I like Star Wars, not a really big fan but come on light sabers that's something that will never exist. Stick to reality like the Samurai Sword now that's a weapon.

    Re: diffrent lightsabers

You know, I really despise these kinds of ideas. Take for example this abomination:

    http://theforce.jaymach.com/images/Lightaxe.jpg

This is absolutely absurd! Has it never occured to anyone that all the lightsabers we have seen have had a fairly consistant width and shape? It occurs to me that the radial symmetry of the lightsaber blades is a result of the technology that produces the blade, so how could make a blade that was an aberration to this principle?

    Re: diffrent lightsabers

I agree, people were worried when they heard that Count Dooku had a curved lightsaber. They hadn't seen it yet, but they were worried that the blade itself would be curved which would be absurd! Luckily the hilt was only curved, cause even I couldn't imagine that the blade would be...to get that blade in that kind of shape just straight out of the hilt is technologically not possible. (in the star wars universe). I don't see us making lightsabers yet....

they are based on them. Darth Vader's helmet for example is based on a samurai helmet

I thought Samurai were personal swords for hire that worked for wealthy, upper-class lords.

    Re: diffrent lightsabers

No I was wrong, this where the name Jedi comes from: Jidaigeki (時代劇) is a genre of film and television or theater play in Japan. The name means "period drama," and the period is usually the Edo period of Japanese history which was from 1600 to 1868. Some, however, are set much earlier — Portrait of Hell, for example, is set during the late Heian period. Jidaigeki show the lives of the samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants of this time. Jidaigeki films are sometimes referred to as chambara movies, a word meaning "sword fight". They have a set of dramatic conventions including the use of makeup, language, catchphrases, and plotlines.

I know that Akira Kurosawa is one of George Lucas' idols... The influence of The Hidden Fortress can be seen in George Lucas's Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, particularly in the technique of telling of the story from the points of view of the film's lowliest characters. The relationship of R2-D2 and C-3PO is very similar to that of Tahei and Matakichi. Also, the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Princess Leia mirror those of the general Rokurota Makabe and Princess Yukihime. Yukihime's technique of disguising herself as a peasant is mirrored in the first Star Wars prequel by Queen Amidala, who disguises herself as the handmaiden Padmé. Early in the development of Star Wars, George Lucas even considered Toshiro Mifune for the role of Obi-Wan. One of the Imperials aboard the Death Star even begins to say "hidden fortress" before being cut off by Darth Vader.

    Re: diffrent lightsabers

I think it is supposed to weigh something. Red weighs the most (the crystal) while blue wieghs the least.

    Re: diffrent lightsabers

it's the handle that has a weight, and the components inside.
still, it seem s weird that qui-gon had to push hi shardest to get through the door at the naboo-blockade..

    Re: diffrent lightsabers

So, a real lightsaber (in the Star Wars universe) would handle the same if it was "on" or "off"? (Unless it came into contact with another blade, or had to cut through something?)

Basically, if you're just twirling it in the air.... it feels like you're just spinning a flashlight around?
