    I was just wondering.

I read the books first and loved them, so I was really happy when they made the movies.

Read the Hobbit before the movies. Read part of the books before FoTR. Read all of the books before TTT.

My dad read me The Hobbit when I was seven, and then a year later read me the trilogy. I have read them every year almost since then! We were both so excited when they made the films and I have continued my tradition of reading the books yearly.

Read the books when I was 10, nearly 38 years ago now. Re-read them regularly ever since.

Read the books first. The Hobbit when I was in Gr. 6 (I think), and the books maybe a year or so before FotR came out. Read the Sil, UT and BoLT's after the movies though.

When I first saw the FOTR I thought it was gonna be some dumb stupid wizard thing. But when it was over, I got in the car and five minutes later I was at the library. I was so impressed and excited by LOTR that I read the intoduction and everything else I could find about it before I read the story. In doing that I found out about the Hobbit, so I stopped reading FOTR I was at Bombadil, and I started reading the Hobbit. Since then I have read the trilogy+ hobbit three times and ROTK four times ( I read it before the movie camo out to refresh ) and I have read the Silmarillion twice + the book of unfinshed tales.

I read "The Hobbit" because I saw it at the library about a year before FOTR and it looked interesting. I read it and I was hooked for life. After I finished it I went on to LOTR. About halfway through FOTR I found out they were making the movies. SO glad I read them before.
