I know there already is a topic where people suggested these kind of books but I got the impression most of the books suggested had a "good" character living in a dark world. (Something like the sword of truth series). I just finished the broken empire trilogy and really enjoyed reading it and now I'm looking for something similar. Any suggestions? As I said before, please no good guys living in a dark world.
There is another trilogy based in the same universe as Broken Empire, The Red Queen's War, two books are out already. The Black Company series are good…. Although you get to love guys from the company, none of them is good in particular. And the world is pretty messed up too The First Law trilogy by , Joe Abercrombie: I did not read myself yet, but from what I was told characters there are special Dudes like: Superior Glokta - a torturer who actually enjoys his work, Login Ninefingers, with his split personality, becomes a psychotic killer with his The Bloody Nine personality, Black Dow- a vicious killer who done wrong to do right. Prince Of Nothing Series by R Scott Bakker was recommended to me based on me liking the Broken Empire, I cite: “The story and landscape is one of desolation and darkness, the characters are either used or use others, and the heroes are broken individuals with plenty of flaws or straight-out manipulative bastards. “ Land Fit For Heroes trilogy by Richard K. Morgan, another recommendation: “One of the darkest fantasy books (and series...it's a trilogy which was completed at the end of 2014) you'll ever read. It's pretty much the 'anti-fantasy' of every fantasy book you've read, a complete subversion of the fantasy tropes. “
Let me know if you read some of those, which I was recommended but did not read myself, I would like to know your opinion before I read them.
so I just read a sample of the first Land Fit For Heroes book, and not gonna lie, it was rather interesting, I might end up picking it up for future reading.
Well if JNK is going to read Land Fit For Heroes I'm going to try the Prince of Nothing Series Thanks for the recommendations!
well that actually means we should split ... and Midnat mentioned he would go for Land Fit For Heroes, you said you'd go for Prince Of Nothing Series, then I'm bound for the The First Law Will try to do (I usually have a restriction for audiobooks... too busy to do real read )
I have to find a library where they have the Prince of Nothing Series Preferably in English and not in dutch
So I'm halfway the first book of the prince of nothing series but I had to take a break due to my exams. Anyway, the story is okay so far. Nothing special in my opinion but a fine dark fantasy
nice ... I was posting here without any f words... and my stuff still got deleted... what can I say...
I think it was wrong thread I was prolly so pissed off, that I did not see where I'm posting Or maybe it was... right... at the time when Mad hatter was on my ass my stuff was deleted randomly
Hey, how did you like these? I'm also interested in dark fantasy. I heard Joe Abercrombie's style is very similar to GRRMs, so I read his novel Half a king, the first part in his Shattered Sea trilogy. It was good, but it didn't make me very eager to read part 2 and 3. I really liked the first part, but he lost me somewhere on the way. I even was a bit indifferent with the story when I got to the ending.
