I would like to design my own sword and let a professional swordsmith make it. I haven't got a single clue however, if this is possible at all in the first place and if it is, what would be the best place to go. Could someone tell me how I should handle this?

Thanx very much gavaha, I haven't yet made up my mind about how it's gonna look precisely but it will be a straight bladed hand and a half type of about 40 inches in length. Maybe I'll borrow a few aspects of Narsil and Glamdring (but certainly not too much)
because I want it to be something personal and not a rip-off from the UC's. if it's done I'll send you an image of the final design.

Hey Gavaha, I've red your threads and you sound like you've got some experience with swords and the art of swordfighting

yes, I have trained and still training, studied books, conversed with others who study, and go to sites where I can learn more. There are so good books about basic swordsmanship, I posted about one, called Medieval Swordsmanship. But this is off topic, if you want we can talk on aim or something. Thanks for noticing too

I've seen a site or two where you can get custom swords made. Unfortunately doing that will probably be expensive. Otherwise I have a few designs of my own I'd love to have!

By the way, Gavaha if you read this, which style(s) of swordfighting do you specialize yourself in ?

LOL expensive is anything over $100(I'm on a limited budget). Ok, honestly expensive to me as far as swords go would be like $400+. The most expensive pieces in my collection that I bought were like $275 - $295. Some of the custom swords I've seen run upward of $1,000. Now that's expensive as far as I'm concerned.

If I were to have a sword made, my first choice would be my Starsword, a custom Medieval/Fantasy two-handed sword.

$ 1000 dollar answers to my opinion of expensive as well, it is possible to get quite nice custom blades from about $500, though.

You're right, I've seen some nice custom blades for about $500.

Mine would cost more though, it's a bit on the fancy side. :p

I am planning to get myself a custom sword, when I checked the Fotr ee gallery section this afternoon I bumbed into some nice looking concept sketches of Glamdring, some of these I actually liked even more than the chosen movie prop. anyway, I just think I am gonna let myself be inspired by those designs for my own.

    Thanks. :D

I'm debating whether or not to add my Starsword design to the gallery or not. Don't want anyone stealing my idea because I do intend to use it someday. :)p I'm a bit paranoid and
pessimistic) But I'd also like to show off too. LOL If I do add it I'll post a link to it here

I wouldn't worry too much about people stealing your idea
most people who are willing to lay down good money to purchase a custom sword ( which to most of whom is indeed something personal) generally have plenty ideas of their own.
But I really don't have any right to say this after I just let myself be ''inspired'' by the Glamdring concepts on the DVD's
