I don't think I've posted art on this forum before, but I plan on drawing heaps over the Summer break and would like to share my stuff with you all to get critiques etc. I don't have anything new to post so for now I'm just going to post a few sketches on here. I know Eph has seen these but I don't think anyone else has.

First up is a sketch I did a while ago of an insect creature. I created it by looking at photos of about 20 different insects and morphing aspects of them together. One of my first holiday projects will be to do a fully coloured digital painting of this guy.

I haven't seen this one before. I can't wait to see the fully coloured digital version of this little fellow... :)

I'm still pretty bad at digital painting as I've only actually done it once or twice. Colouring this image as well as a few others I have planned will really be practice for me. So who know's how it will turn out but I'm excited to try.

Yeah, I'm considering buying a tablet to see if I will take to colouring with one. I'm still kinda on the fence about it though.

    Good luck with your efforts!

If you do I would recommend a Wacom Intuous. One of their great middle-ranged tablets. You're pretty much safe with anything by wacom. I'm still amazed that you colour your strips with a mouse. That doesn't seem like it should be possible to me.

With the basic level of colouring I do for my strips, it's not only possible, but also fairly straightforward. With what you're planning to do with that picture though... well, I don't think one could get away with just using a mouse for that.

Thanks for recommendation by the way! :)

I can't use a mouse for anything when it comes to art. My hand just doesn't seem to function unless I am holding a pencil or pen shaped thing.

Speaking of things, I have something to tell you! I was at Uni with some friends today and I opened up Crumble Cult to show my friend that one of the characters is based off me. When I opened it she straight away said "Oh yeah, I've seen some of this guys work". I swear every single person I've shown it to has already seen it. It's so awesome how it's spreading.

SERIOUSLY?! That's AWESOME to hear! Wow. I guess it's spreading further than I realise, 'cos from where I'm sitting it seems for all the world like few are noticing! :D

She was the third or fourth person I've shown it to that has already seen it before. So cool. And other people I have shown it to haven't recognised it but they loved it. So it certainly is spreading around.

Well, you just made my night, Cru. Thanks!

I really ought to stop derailing this thread though. It's about your artwork, and not my massive, artistic ego! :p

We are still talking about art. It's cool. To put it back on track I'll post another piece, something a bit more fantasy related. I know you've seen this one Eph since it's a bit old. But since I've been focusing on Uni work I don't have much else yet.

A few very quick sketches of dragon designs. I pretty much only like the middle one. I'll probably advance them into more detailed drawings when I get a chance.

I bought a wacom tablet over the summer. Still haven't quite
figured out how to get the darn thing to work though :(

Crou, you draw cool stuff. You're really going to wait for
the summer to come before you go on your art binge?
I'd love to see a lot more, and much sooner than that. :)

Neat drawing Crouton! I like the dragon in the middle as well, a bit of a tyrannosaur/raptor influence in the head shape? The one on the far left look good too - looks like he's in freefall as he dives to strike something fast!

Naw, I like all three of them. The middle might be the most concrete, buuuuut.....

it reminds me of the Eragon cover art :(

I like your style though ^^

I live in Australia, my Summer break starts in 3 days. So don't worry, it won't be too long until you see more art from me :p

    Why isn't your wacom working?

Thanks! I used to draw a lot of dragons years ago. Proper detailed drawings. If anyone is interested I can post some of those old pics.

Oh God no! Don't tell me that. I hate the dragon on the Eragon cover art. Ahhhh

This is a fantasy forum - you can't dangle dragons in front of us and not expect a resounding YES from us! :)

It's the pose, I think.... Not so much the dragon itself.

Phew haha. I've always hated the dragons on the covers of those books so much.

Okay here's a couple of very old dragon drawings from me. Back when I had time to put a lot of time into drawing.

I like the vicious looking one the best. There's something very human about his eye,
but I also find his horns and fins cool as well.

Just leave it to me to think that the whole world lives on my time table :)
Not sure why, but for some reason, I can't get the pen to work. One day soon
I'll pull the tablet out again to see if I can solve the problem.

I agree with Overread. We so love dragons here. Can't get enough of them.

Oh! Dragons?!?!?! MORE OF CROUTON'S DRAGONS PLEASE!!!!!!

Do you sketch in colour too Crouton? I think once you get through the initial frustration of figuring out how the paint program works (Photoshop is easier than Corel Painter BTW), you'll probably love it. As much as I fight with my paint program, I now win the battles more often than not and I don't even draw anything on paper anymore.
