The ultimate WoT n00b Firiath has a question. Is it right that "Eye of the World" is the first WoT book? I bought this book some days ago, its German title is "Drohende Schatten" (which means something like threatening shadows). And some minutes ago I saw that the German title of the 2nd WoT book is "Das Auge der Welt" which means "Eye of the World". Now I'm confused. And in Germany the book "The Great Hunt" is book #3, not #2. Can anyone clear up my confusion?

wierd, the ye of the world is the first book, the great hunt is second, the FOURTH book is called 'shadow rising' which could be the one you have.

also there IS a prequel called 'new spring' technically coming before the eye of the world but you shouldnt really read it till later.

To help you determine which ones rihgt the prologue for the first book the yee of the world revolves around lews therin telamon stumbling around hallways (without giving away too much) and it entitles 'dragonmount'

    hope that helps.

I just got KoD from the library, and I'm going to start reading it tomorrow. It's been such a long time since I read the last one, I've forgotten some of the plotline and minor characters. Anyone know of a site the has good summarys of the books? Thanks. :)

I got "Drohende Schatten" some days ago, and on one of the first pages it says that its original title is "Eye of the world", and that this is the first book. I have no idea why they changed the title, but I'm glad I have the right book. :D
And thanks for your help. :)

Oh, I think I might know - unless they confused the titles, they might have split the Eye of the World into two books. They did that in the USA to make a children's edition of EotW.

yes but i thought their titles were something like 'out of two rivers' and 'into the blight' or something similar, not 'threatenign shadow' or whatever the foreign one was.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me of the titles.... but I can't believe that they would REALLY muck things up by calling The Shadow Rising the first book...

Somebody needs to write a definitve summary of all the books so far. Definitely before A Memory of Light comes out. I'd buy it.

After reading which book should one read New Spring

The Companion to the Wheel of Time might do that.

well for new spring i said 'shouldnt really' you can read it without dire consequence before the rest, but it helps to know the characters better first, im ot sure but ideally it would be read in order of writing or after, i read it after CoT myself.

It also makes for more interesting reading after you know the characters, because you can look at what they're like back then and say "Wow. That's interesting."

Anyway, you don't need to take notes to remember everything. Just keep reading the books until you can recite the by heart. I must have read Eye of the World at least three or four times...

One part I can't stop reading is the scene where Rand first channeled and when the Creator talked to him and told him he was the one, that is was up to him to do what must be done. I must have read that scene at least a dozen times; I just can't get enough. I wonder if the creator talks to him again? Well, we'll just have to see.

    just two quick questions
    1. in one of the chapters i just read in winter's heart, elayne is getting her twisted ter'angreal out of her purse and it says that she has a silk handkerchief full of feathers that she considers her greatest treasure. can anybody refresh my memory? were these morgase's pillow feathers or a gift from aviendha or something? a handkerchief full of feathers is a pretty strange thing to keep in a purse
    2. when damer flinn heals those aes sedai, do they get their full power back? i remember when nynaeve un-stilled siuan, she was much weaker in the power, but logain was restored with full power. is it like a power balance: only a man can unstill a woman properly and only a man can ungentle a man?

    I can answer #2.

When Ny heals Siuan and Logain, Siuan is considerably weaker in the One Power, but Logain is the same. When Damer Flinn heals the Aes Sedai, they are fully restored. So, from this information we can guess that you need a man to heal a woman from stilling and vice versa. I think the only conclusive way to know is if Flinn heals a man and he is weaker in the One Power. Or, RJ outright tells us. ;)
