Yeah, actually, the Targaryen incest did make me uncomfortable. For some odd reason, the sister-brother thing just kinda made me.. uncomfortable. I wasn't grossed out, but I still thought it was sick. But that mighy just be my 15-year-old "innocent" side speaking up. :p

I've found people were more uncomfortable with Jaime-Cersei than with the Targaryen cases. I don't know if that's because it was on-screen, because it was also adultery, bacause they are twins or because of the individuals involved.

I'm only into the second book but I think the difference is there. The Targaryen's were doing it for a long time to keep the blood lines pure. It's like being brought up to prefer the opposite sex.
Cersei and Jamie were a different case as it was no longer a common occurrance. It was wrong else they wouldn't hide it.

Yeah, maybe. The "keep the bloodlines pure", in a way, is actually more understandable then "I.. err... like Cersei/Jaime". So... I was slightly more uncomfortable with the Lannister's incest.

And Joffrey turned out to be SUCH an idiot... you'd think they'd learned better than to have more kids...

I'm guessing that Joff's problems were not a result of Jaime being his father. Rather, the way he was raised. Cersei for obvious reasons, and I doubt that Robert was the ideal role model for the future king.

What I find most interesting about Joff is the marked difference between him and his siblings, they seem to be quite pleasant. If it wasn't off-topic (we're supposed to be discussing Jaime after all) I'd wonder if that was caused by the fact that he was heir-apparent, first-born or because of the companionship of the Hound...

I don't know, but Tommen and Myrcella are nice. Joff is... stupid. What else can I say?

Actually, I'd prefer to discuss Tyrion...

How about Catelyn Stark? We talked about her a bit, but she's quite an interesting character.

Actually, let's just have a new character discussion whenever we come up with a fun person to discuss... :D That way we can discuss Joff, Tyrion, AND Cat.

Back on topic : I'm looking forward to Jaime overcoming his newfound handicap. By the end of the last book he appeared to have come to grips with it.

I think a large part of his future depends on how well he can learn to fight with his left before he has to fight someone, even in practice. His reputation is basically built on fear and respect of his fighting prowess, he's on very thin ice at present. If people learn that he's no longer so dangerous then his standing is going to take a serious hit, and I'm sure there are plenty of people waiting for a chance at payback...

I kind of see Jaime as doing what Arya did. Constant training, again and again. I think he's going to work out quite well. He likely won't be as capable as he once was with his right swordarm, but he'll still be fearsome enough once he trains hard.
I'm wondering what he's going to do now though. He's lost Cersei, Tywin, Tyrion. What's really left for him? I have an incling he might leave Kings Landing and possibly join up with Dany later on. Sounds silly doesn't it? But he seems to be coming to terms with what he did and also seems to have the need to be as honourable as Brienne. It was clear that he envied her in that sense.

I revived this thread, as we now have more material for discussion on Jaime from AFFC.

IF YOU ARE POSTING STUFF FROM AFFC, PLEASE CHANGE THE FONT COLOR TO WHITE AND GIVE SPOILER WARNINGS. Not everyone has read the 4th book yet! :)

I think that his killing Aerys was wrong because Aerys would have died sooner or later and then Prince Reagan would have been king. He basically tore the kingdom apart, from killing King Aerys

Yes this is true...but thus begins the Game of Thrones.
Jaime has major issues to deal with but I see his character as growing and am very curious what his part in the big picture will eventually be!

Book 1-3 is fair game; Book 4 stuff should be changed so that the font color is white. Also, provide spoiler warnings (for Book 4). This is because not everybody has had a chance to read AFFC, although the spoiler policy will probably change in spring/summer of 2006. (But ask the mods about that... I'm just going with common sense here)

Jaime gives quite clear reasons for killing Aerys in SoS. Aerys would have burnt down kings landing if Jaime had not killed him.

If any one is to blame for the war then it is Rahgear and Lyanna for running off together.
Not that I disagree with what they did. Love never does run smooth, and it makrs for a cool book seiries.

I think Jaime always has his reasons to do what he does, but like Cersei has mentioned so many times he is driven by his emotions. In turn he tends to regret things later. I think when it's all said and done Jaime will surprise us all.
