Jaime Lannister is one of the books most intriguing characters, undergoing several changes (both pyhsically and emotionally) throughout the books. I know, for me, I despised The Kingslayer throughout AGOT but by the end of ASOS he was one of my favourite characters.

Do people believe he was trated fairly by being given the title of Kingslayer ? Now while its a very cool title, it is used in a derogative term. Was it right for him to murder Aerys II Targaryen ? Personally, I believe someone had to do it, and Jaime was the right man for the job. However, his position in the Kingsguard cannot be disregarded, he broke a sacred oath to protect his King. Should Robert have allowed him to serve in the Kingsguard, did he even have a choice ?

I think that Jaime did the realm a service by killing him, this is of course based on the information we recieved during aSoS. I do however think that he should have been removed from the King's Guard. Regaurdless of what his reasons were, an oath is an oath.

Yeah, I hated him in AGOT, but I loved him by the end of ASOS. His mocking humor became wry and almost self-mocking, as if he had learned to laugh at himself, something that I feel is important.

While Aerys Targaryen was the "mad king," and Jaime may have done everyone a favor by killing him, consider his methods for doing so. He betrayed the king he had sworn to protect, and I wouldn't have condemned him for it if he hadn't done what he did--pretending to be an ally and betraying Aerys' last hope. No one should have to go through that, not even Aerys. Who wants to have your heart lifted by hope and then killed by the very man you thought you could trust?

However, he was young back then, and I feel that he began maturing more and more, especially through aSoS, where he stopped being an extension of Tywin Lannister, whom I despise. When Tywin essentially cast his son away after losing his hand, Jaime managed to find a spine. Brienne of Tarth forced him to mature even more, and to acknowledge that he wasn't Superman--he had to learn that depending on others isn't always a weakness.

The business with Tysha, of course, wasn't really cool.

And yes, I do find his... relationship... with Cersei disgusting.

I don't think he's ever been an especially wholesome personality, even though he seems to be getting a bit more sense of late. I don't know if maturing is the proper word for his personal journey, but rather he's come to realize that the people he's held close all his life are not what he thought them to be. I wonder if he and Brienne will end up together in some way or another.

Hmm, that's something I was thinking too... Jaime and Brienne... now that's an odd thought...

First off, how the hells are you supposed to pronounce it? When I first started reading, I assumed it was ''hay-may'' like the Spanish name, but I decided that it didn't fit with everyone else's name. At the moment I've decided on ''jame'' like the start of ''James''.

The problem with judging Jaime is that oaths are taken a lot more seriously in Westoros than they are here. Basically, people hate Jaime because he's an oathbreaker, not because he's a murderer.
Well, that and the, uh, incest thing, which I think is entirely his own affair.
He's not a moral person, in that he has no principles to live his life by--he just does what he feels like.
The fact that he got to stay in the kingsguard reflects more on Robert than on Jaime himself.

I don't even want to think about Brienne and Jaime.
Thank goodness this theory has no credible evidence.

Its pronounced JAY-ME, as Turin stated. From the lips of GRRM himself, so you know its gotta be right.

Where do people see Jaime's character heading in the future ? Will he become the "reformed knight." will he leave Cersei, stay with her, or something else. Hooking up with Brienne perhaps (though I don't see that happening).

Indeed ? Perhaps we will see a Jaime V Barristan event take place ? Then we can say for sure who'd win between them !

That would be an interesting one, though a bit cliche for Martin.

    Hmm... interesting...

I think he'll end up leaving Cersei, maybe even for Dany. :D Probably for someone else though.

Now that you mention it, his death is seeming very probable, all the signs seem to be there, like the past crimes to atone for, and seeming to be coming good later on-- I think he's heading for a noble death when all hell breaks loose.
I wonder if he'll learn to fightwith his other hand, like Qhorin did?
I think his disagreement with Cersei won't last. The bonds between them are too strong. They swore to die together as they were born together, if you recall.

Wouldn't be the first oath he'd betrayed, or the first sibling.

    Ah. Good point.
Although I should hope that his relations with Tyrion and Aerys were rather different to his dealings with Cersei.

It didn't really bother me, i mean, ofcourse I thought "gross" when they first started going at it, but it isn't exactly the weirdest/grossest thing to ever happen. In those days it was alot more common then today, and in Ancient Egypt it happened all the time. And as Unraveller has already started, the Targaryen's did it.

I don't think it's a big deal. Does that make me a bad person?
Thank goodness I don't have any attractive sisters.
