I was reading some more WoT last night, and this topic came to mind. Out of all the different views in the series, which philosphy presented by a character or group do you think is the best?

Personally, I find Perrin's view on thinking things through in length as to not make a mistake as one of my favourites. I personally try to live by that rule myself. The Whitecloaks also have a good philosphy to live by, but they muddle and corupt it around to much for it to be effective.

    What about you?

i relate to galad's righteous, do-gooder philosophy and mat's impulsive but grudingly responsible philosophy the best. also like avi's very honorable outlook. they seem the most like what i'm like.

I think I can relate most to Rand's views. He try's to do the right thing for the right reasons. He makes tough decisions and does it as fairly as he can. For someone who has no choice but to continue on the path the wheel has set for him I think he does a remarkably good job.

I agree with Turin, everyone sees Rand as some monster for the actions he takes, but with Rand, his choices aren't a simple good and bad choice, he always has to choose the lesser of two evils.

I also admire Lan's stoicism, the way he looks at things is admirable, if not the way i'd live.

he kicks butt :) the world would be so much simpler if every man (or woman, for that matter) were as honorable as he is.

Lan is definately one of the coolest characters in the series. IMO, the coolest warder too (exception maybe Birgette;)).

Nah, Lan would kick Birgitte's butt. Maybe. Acutally, now that i think about it she could just fill him full of arrows before he reached her....well, lets hope that never happens cuz Lan is just so cool !

Lan and Nynaeve are two of my favorite characters, hence my screen name.

    I agree with Turin.

I love them, Nynaeve is SOOO one of my favourite characters - and Lan, what a hero, huh? :p

I think that the person with the best philosophy is Mat. He is always doing his 'duty' and like leading armies and stuff, but he also seems to have the time for having fun. And alot of it.
I wish I could master that. If I am doing what I have to (as opposed to what I want to, which are almost always different things) then more often than not I am not having fun. And if I am having fun, I am probably not doing what I must. :p
