Restored from Tolkien’s manuscripts and presented for the first time as a continuous and standalone story, the epic tale of Beren and Lúthien will reunite fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with Elves and Men, Dwarves and Orcs and the rich landscape and creatures unique to Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

    Publishing date May 2017?

JRR Tolkien's Middle-earth love story to be published next year

Not sure what the point is, apart from publisher and Tolkien estate wanting to make money. Just get a copy of The Silmarillion, it has the complete account of Beren and Luthien, plus Turin Turumbar and other great stories. beautiful story though, but a novella at the most, it's tiny.

Is it extended in any way, or is it just as we can find it in the Silmarillion?

Okay, I read the article, and in there it says

Do I understand it correctly that you get the story as you know it, and then something extra?

It sounds like you get the original work along with work-in progress notes and further information. I suspect that Tolkien has a massive amount of writers notes along with what was told verbally to his family and in interviews and the like; so there's potential for a lot of collected editions like this. Both to bring in money and to present information in a collected form (much of it might already be published or at least known of but not collected together).

    Same

Also I only just got The Silmarillion so I'm going to read 'Of Beren & Luthien' now.
