every time the armies of Sauron attacked the small bands of men, all I could think about was "oh, crap" and how hopeless the whole thing seemed. I think they made it that way on purpose, with the overwhelming odds and such. but it just didn't make sense how in the end the men won anyway.

Yea I liked the orcs better why did they have to die!! Its pretty impossible that the men won since orcs are far better fighters and have the uruk hai too.

that's just abig pile of crap. Orcs are as good at fighting as any other race. Hell, for thousand s of years they fought against ALL the other races...and survived.Remember Arzog (if memory serves :) )? The guy single handedly decapitated a dwarf or two at Moria... and if dwarves aren't tough then i dunno what is.
Ok, so they're swarming. So? Why don't the other guys do it too? Because they're a bunch of laim punkass mo-fos, that's why (especially elves :) ).

The reason men won in the end and not in earlier battles is because they were more united. The fellowship helped unite Rohan with Gondor. It's just like in the first war with Sauron, the only way the people of Middle Earth could win was by joining together under one flag.

HEY! Dont be dissin the elves. They took out all the goblins following the fellowship.
Also, I'd say the men won because they were behind walls. And they have arrows. You've got to keep in mind the defences that they had.

In the film the odds do look pretty bad. When the rohan cavalry charge into the side of the orcs I always thought it looked unrealistic. But if you ever see those horses in real life they are massive! So the way the orcs (and uruk-hai) bounce off is actually what would happen. Plus the orcs are cowards at heart, so even if there is a slight set back they are outta there.

In the book the point is that the old Witch King has blocked the sun with his foul magic, cause orcs hate it and can't really do squat when its shining. So when he gets killed the dark clouds dissappear, the sun comes out (with his hat on) and the orcs think "See ya!". Yeah theres a load of haradrim and easterlings left but whatever.

Oh and plus it makes a good story, and thats all that counts, right

simple, because the men had supierior trained figthers, and orcs were just pressed out of the factory to be used in a war, with little or no training.

Orcs didn't have a brotherhood, per se. Men cared about their friends in battle, while orcs would kill each other over silly things.

:balrog:I think my favorite battle was down in Moria. I also liked when Gandolph fought the Balrog. His death was sad, but the Balrog is awesome and definitely my favorite creature. :Balrog:
