Would it have been possible for Aragorn to fight in that battle? According to my calculations, he would have been about 25 years old at the time. Also, I haven't read the hobbit for a very long time, so I know very little about the battle at all.

Aragorn would of been alive, I would presume. But neither Gondor or the Rangers fought in the battle of 5 armies. So little chance of it as far as I can see. It was the men of Dale, the mirkwood elves, the orcs, the dwarves, and the eagles who fought if I remember right.

Thanks for the info. Did Aragorn meet Gandalf before the time of the battle, or was it after? Because I can't think of many better uses for him than going with the company and fighting in the battle. I know that he left Rivendell when he was about 20, so I'm not sure.

I am sure Gandalf and Aragorn were friends from a very young age for aragorn. But he did not fight at the five armies....

My guess would be that they knew each other. I'm sure that Gandalf frequented Rivendell in the years prior to the war of the ring.

    Aragorn is born in 2931
Aragorn is adopted by Elrond in 2933
    Bilbo's adventure was in 2941
The battle of the five armies was in 2941
Elrond tells Aragorn his true name and nature 2951
Aragorn and Galdalf meet in 2956 for the first time
Aragorn sets out (posing at tims as Thorongil) in 2957
Aragorn returns (and meets arwen in 2980
    Gollum reaches Mordor in 2980
Gollum is released from Mordor and Sauron seeks out the Shire in 3017
The events of the LOTR 3018-3019 (at this point Aragorn should be ~88)

These dates were from the Appendices of LOTR

So during the hobbit, aragorn would be ~10 and he doesnt meet Gandalf until he is 25 or so. Also, In the tale of Aragorn and Arwen it says "But when Estel (Aragorn) was only 20 years of age (2951), it chanced that he returned to Rivendell after great deeds in the company of the sons of Elrond." This sounds like Aragorn was hidden away somewhere that Gandalf didnt know about or never visited.

That said, It is possible that Legolas and Gimli were at the battle. Legolas was a son of the Elf King, and Gimli was about 60 then and may have been in the dwarven army from the Iron Hills when Dain came to help Thorin.

I bet Legolas was in the battle.
Where did Gimli grow up, was it the Iron Hills?
