I think that's the exact name of it, but it really has interested me. The thing with Egwene and her dream, and then the whole Aeil bit. Does anyone know more information about it? (No major spoilers please.)

Well, I am not 100% sure, but what does Moraine use when she kills those Darkhounds out of Illian in DR? She says that she is one of the few people to know it in the last 2000 years, and that she could be stilled by some Aes Sedai for knowing the secret behind it, nevermind using it. It totally 'evaporated' (so to speak) the hounds.

Maybe I missed it being said, but was that balefire?

Definately. I thought Moraine also implied that Sammuel (sp?) would know what it was if he was looking, and she hoped he didn't notice. We know that the Forsaken were very powerful, so I am thinking it maybe possible for them to have knowledge of balefire too? Or was it just the fact that so much of the One Power was being used.

I thought it was more of the One Power being used. (Especially in that magnitude.) Remember, the Aes Sedai can sense when someone else can use the One Power, since it's such a part of them.

Maybe that's what made it so wrong for Aes Sedai to use. It was originally corrupted by the Forsaken?

It wasn't really a question. More of a thought for those who hadn't read that far. I didn't want to spoil that for me, but I did think that it is a possibility.

It was Balefire that Moiraine used on the Darkhounds. I'll give you an idea of what balefire is, but I will not go into too much detail because it seems that all of you are new readers.

During the War of Power, the One Power was used in ways previously unimagined. It was used as a fearsome weapon, and as a tool to make conventional weapons more dangerous.

But no use of the One Power was as frightening as the weave known as balefire. Both sides of the war discovered this dangerous weave, and used it liberally. It was invincible. The searing liquid fire destroyed anything it touched.

Well, at the time of the original post, I was just beginning the books; and Balefire was really just given in hints. At the moment, I am reading Crossroads of Twilight.
