Welcome to the ASoIaF 2007 TFF Reread!

From start to finish thus far, A Song of Ice and Fire contains 271 chapters. We have approximately 50 weeks to complete the reread if we want to be finished before 2009. That's 5.42 chapters per week. I think we should try to read 6 chapters a week. If we're lucky A Dance With Dragons will be out before the end of the year, at which time I'd really like to have the reread finished.

This will be a casual reread. Anyone is welcome to quit or join at any time. For the sake of convienance I'll post links to the www.towerofthehand.com chapter summaries that coordinate with the chapters we are reading that week.

Post your favorite or least favorite moments, favorite or least favorite quotes, character discussions, legitimate or crackpot theories, predictions and general comments about the assigned chapters.

Two things stood out to me during these chapters:

    1) "they wispered of ser Arthur Dayne , the swrod of the morning, deadliest of the seven knights of Aery's kingsguard, and of how their young lord has slain him in single combat. And they told of how afterward Ned had carried Ser Arthur's sword back to the beautiful young sister who awaited him in a castle called starfall on the shores of the summer sea. The lady Ashara Dayne, tall and fair, with haunting violet eyes..

I'm not entirely sure why this stood out to me , wether its because of the romantic notion of it or it has some big significance to the story

    2) Jon saying to Arya "Different roads somtimes lead to the same castle. Who knows?"

This stood out to me because its the kind of real small sentance that gets skipped over and missed but is prophetic of what may happen.. Maybe im wrong, Who knows?

I agree with your second point there Hendy, in all the novels it seems that Jon and Arya will somehow be reunited at one point, or maybe that's just what I hope for. And as to your first point that stood out to me as well. Also the fact that Ned will not give the name, I mean his personality suggests that he wouldn't say who it is so he would not dishonour the lady.

Yeah (I hope for a Stark reunion too),

It seems that there is so much more to that part of the story with Ashara dayne, Its just hinted at at this stage but even at this early stage it stands out to me.

Does anyone think it's really true that Ashara Dayne could be Jon's mother?

She might well be if Ned is Jon's father... but that's a very big 'if'.

    Yeah, I've seen all the arguments. I'm definaltey a R + L = J fangirl, but...

Just curious if anyone thought it was Ned and Ashara.

    I'm hoping too much for R + L, but I wouldn't mind if Jon was a Dayne either. ;)

Yeah... Though I think I would prefer R + L = J. I think that the whole N + A was a lie to keep the truth from being known. And I think I would prefer the whole R + L thing because of "the Dragon must have three heads." It would be interesting for J to be a head.

That's always been an interesting theory, I know the Coal always smothers the Gold, but would the Ice melt the Fire? Interesting but I will just continue with thinking that Jon is Ned's son for now.

Edit: Altough Ned doesn't seem like the kind of man who would ahve fathered a bastard either, but still I need more proof.

Realistically, with the facts that we have it could be neds and wyllas, ned and ashara, or R+L, with the way Grrm kills people off and makes twists in the stories he could be brandonds or benjens with anyones?...

I'm hoping its Ashara's, i'm still not a huge fan of Rhaegar, in my mind I see him as a joffrey character, can't explain why though.? however i'm a big fan of lyanna...

Damnit, I can't make up my mind!!!!!!

*secretly starts work on my time machine so I can go into the future and buy the series and find out what the hell really happens, *

Ender, ever read the R+ L = J theory threads? There's a thread around somewhere.

I just read it after I made that post last night. I'm still not sure, that's a lot of assumptions. It does seem quite likely though, but I don't want to get too excited about it incase it turns out not to be them, and because it most likely be told until the last book.

Anyways back on topic, I was so sad when Bran was thrown to the ground. Did Jaime hesitate?

I think Jaime was checking how old Bran was when he threw him out the window, because maybe even he might hesitate to throw a child out the window. If Bran was younger he may not have been thrown out at all.

I think he disliked doing it, he was just trying to protect himself and Cersei, " 'Th things ?I do for love,' he said with loathing." this to me suggests he only did it so no one would find out. He obviously knew who Bran was after seeing him around the castle, if it had been anyone else I think he may not have done it as they would be without merit, but Bran has merit because he is a lords son.

Yeah, he definitely didn't want to do it - "loathing" is a strong word. He did it because he knew if anyone found out about him and Cersei both of them would probably have been executed.

Yeah, if it was a choice between his life and a child's life, the old Jaime would definitely choose his life.

Lol, I can't really spell either of the sayings, it's been a little while since I've seen them.
