Is Gandalf and Saruman immortal! because in the books they seem to be living forever can anyone tell me a reason why these twoi wizards shouldn't be made immortal?

Im guessing you havent read the Silmarillion, itd be best if you had. It explains pretty much everything in Tolkien's world.

The short of it is, yes, both Gandalf and Saruman are immortal. They are both Maia, which are pretty much the same as angels in our world. In the War Of The Ring, the 5 Istari (Wizards) are sent to Middle Earth in the guise of old men to help with the fight against Sauron. Now we see from Gandalf's experience with the Balrog that his pyshical body can be slain (and indeed, it is) but his spirit has not died, and he is returned by Illuvatar (God) to finish his work against Sauron.

    Hummm...

I didn't find the Silmarillion hard to get thru at all. I thought that it was a pretty easy read actually. Of course, My degree is in History, and I love research so maybe I'm just wierd!

The Sil is a very good book. Its... well I feel kind of wierd saying this, but its beautiful. Its not just any book but a superb work of art. And I do agree with Elan, its pretty hard to get through. I found that once I was through the first half, it was a lot easier to read.
