I really want this knife, but it's kind of pricey, is this worth buying?

Remember it is about the size of Sting and it comes with a scabbard. So in that light it isn't too expensive. Shop around if your finances are tight.

I'd love to see it more widely available, but that will come with time. The present limited quantities may result in higher prices...

In a few months, when production is in full swing, the going price may lower a little.

that's why i'm waiting with my purchase for now..i relaly want aragorns dagger and LWK too, but i'll wait 'till things are in full swing..never know..maybe the quality will be even better than???? IF there are bugs still there...doubt it though..the Aragorns dagger looks sweet..but yeah...i'll be waiting for things to speed up. So there's a good point that Doom brought up.

Still think its worth buying though...just depends when and whether you have the money for it..

Yes, there is a chance that the farther you are in a production run the less quirks there will be... but there is also a chance new problems will arise and a batch or two may have something misaligned. It's a gamble. ;)

I've seen AHK's for about $165 and LWK's going for pre-order at $160. Not all places have the same prices, and not all retailers offer pre-order or are trustworthy enough to trust with a pre-order. When in doubt, private message members here for suggestions, check their site layout for professionalism, feedback ratings, etc, etc.

There's always a gamble yeah i agree with waiting but then what isn't a gamble in life? heh, definitely, listen to Doom, he speaks wise words :p ....make sure you do shop around and look around and stuff, don't rush into it, wouldn't want to get ripped off now do you.

Really? thats fairly cheap, cheapest i've seen is like $175USD.. where did you see that Doom? does that place ship internationally? cause then i wouldn't mind checking them out...

So ... what's up with the endcaps/pommels coming off of the AHK? I've already read two or three of these cases and it has only just begun to come in.

If the pommel cap is attached like it is to Hadhafang, I can see this happening. On Hadhafang, the pommel cap is glued on. Er... epoxy'd on. Whatever. The tang of the blade is actually bolted to the handle and does not connect with the pommel.

Although, I can't say I've heard of Hadhafang pommel caps coming off... not inadvertantly. I guess the AHK ones aren't on as tight :(

Good thing I'm waiting to get one.

Get it! Get it! I've got it and it's extraordinary! The pommel is very snug.

Does it have the same finish on the blade that Hadhafang has? Like, is the luster shiny or kinda flat? Cause' the blade on Hadhfang is different from that of like the Ranger Sword and Anduril ect. and isn't as glossy as those. But hunting knife in the movie looks more shiney and glossy.

It's fairly sharp, but not really. The tip is pretty sharp, though.

The blade is pretty shiney. Almost reflective.

Yeah, the cap did come off in transit with mine. Nothing was actually damaged, and the glue was still on the end of the handle. It just seperated from the metal cap for some reason. Maybe they didn't use very sturdy glue on it, but I just glued it myself with some contact cement and it's been fine since then. Like I said in my post, the box was pretty heavily damaged when it got to me, so I think my knife might have experienced a lot of abuse on its way to me. However, if other people are having the same problem, then perhaps the glue is to blame. Anyway, the rest of the craftsmanship is amazing, so I don't mind a bit of repairs as long as it can be fixed easily and isn't permanent.

I wonder if the pommel/glue problem is related at all to temperature. If these knives are being shipped to nothern areas of the US, sitting around in cold delivery vans for a day or two in sub freezing weather could effect the glue holding the pommel on. Thankfully, I've had no trouble with mine. It looks great hanging beside the Ranger Sword. The blade surface doesn't seem as shiny as the blade of the Ranger Sword or Glamdring, but it's a beauty!

Here's a quick and dirty shot of the Elven Knife next to Sting for size reference. The handle is just the perfect size for one hand.

The yellow flare on the Elven Knife is a secondary light source I aimed at it. It was hard to shoot the two side by side, as I would get one lit well and then the other didn't photograph well. These lackluster photo results are about 5 minutes worth of setup for my lil' ol' cracker jack box digital camera. Bottom line: This photo doesn't do the blade justice, its just to compare the two in size.

It is an impressive blade in person. Mine is as shiny as all of the other blades after a cleaning with Windex and a little 3in1 oil.

You might want to check on the Gallery as there were some shots in there.
