Its to a link with frames, so basically I got the EoA mainpage, but...

If this thread is refering to the blood relationship between Aragorn and Arwen, I wouldn't be to shocked. Remember her age, and then his. It would be so distant, it wouldn't make a difference. But yes technically he did marry his own kin.

Well, it's not actually that shocking, we're all related very distantly, but that is from my totally creationist standpoint.

Very true. Even Arwen said "we are kin from afar."

I doubt Elrond is related to Gimli though.

OK im going im going to straighten this out once and for all! Gilraen (aragorns mom) brought aragorn to rivendell so he would be protected from the world and wouldnt be killed so he could one day claim the throne. SO elrond ADOPTED aragorn and arwen and aragorn are adopted brother and sister. NOT blood related! Hope this fixes this!

Actually, that is not true. Elrond is the brother of Elros from whom Aragorn descended. So in fact, he and Arwen are distant cousins if I am correct. Besides, Arwen says that they are related.

Yes they are related by blood. You can see it in the family trees in the back of the Silmarillion.

Didn't that just happen all the time in ME? OK, the turin/Nienor connection was a bit on the short side but it is said that even Galadriel and Celeborn were blood relatives. I guess Tolkien pictured it pretty normal for family to marry. Come to mention it, the House of Stuarts of Gondor and of Eorl of Rohan were connected too, even before Eowyn and Faramir "found" each other.

Basically, it would be like some guy with the last name Smith, finding a girl with the last name Smith, but they are not "related".....they fall in love.....get married.....but somewhere down the line they are related...oh, such a tangled web.

I think the whole marriage/family is so you don't marry someone from your immediate family, because I think the further away the less the dynamic effect in your gene pool...

I mean...I'm friends with two guys who married women who were sisters...how complicated can this get?

Not that I know what I'm talking about... :)

This thread is intresting.if Aragorn and Arwen are realeted blood wise then yes they are marying there own kin. But like someone here said, Tolkien may thought of those of the same blood line marying one and other was normal.
