ManOWar was the old Games Workshop ship game, recently they also released DreadFleet which is a one-off box game that comes with a variety of ships (from what I can tell one per race) in teh warhammer world and is based of a good old good vs chaos game on the high seas

Dystopian wars is nothing like that and is far more steampunk :)

That is a very small set

I mean its full of little gobbos and dwarfies! ;) But still looks like a fun set and you'd have a spare army to play others with if you could set something up local.

Must admit I keep having my eye on this one : http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440006a&prodId=prod850019a
Ratties have always been interesting and the Wood Elves look to be not getting anything new for a long time now (I like the army idea, but just feel that the model range isn't "wild" enough for wood elves and I'd probably suppliment it with a lot of custom beasties being added). Plus that boxed set has one of the coolest griffen models (I was most annoyed that the new warhammer beasts expansion didn't have a griffen model released for it!

Well I never liked Skaven,in fact I hate them, but wood elves look cool. But I love dwarfs and goblins are ok since they are smaller versions of the Orcs.Plus this set has everything, starter's book, rulebook, paints,a paintbrush, rulers etc.

So what do you say, should I go for it? :p

If you want it go for it - though you might want to consider ebay. You could get the starter booklet (which will have all the rules minus the fluff that the main book comes with) off ebay and then put all the money into either gobbos or dwarfies (new from the shop) - focus on one single army first maybe if one takes your fancy more than the other.

If you have somebody to play it with, and know that they will want to play with you quite a lot, then get them to pay part of the price for the box set, as having two armies isn't very useful if you're on your own.
The Island of Blood set has High Elves, not Wood Elves.
And have any of you seen this http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/c...=cat480011a&rootCatGameStyle=specialist-games. I was shown it in a shop a few years back. The models are smaller than the normal LotR ones (which are a teensy bit smaller than Warhammer ones).

So far so good, new army books for Orc and Goblins, Ogre Kingdoms have been outed. Not too sure on the Beasts of Chaos end tho. For Wood Elves, I heard that it's official that 8th Ed will pop out a new one for them. Only catch lies in the most likely release date being last quarter of this year or 1st quarter of 2012. T_T

And I've finally realized one thing: Organ Gun to-hit rule is a bloody pile of bs. And in a VERY broken manner. Simply put, you don't need to roll in order for the shit to hit. ****ing broken and NO sane guy playing against the stunty artillery will end up NOT saying **** it and bail out. -.-

On another interesting sidenote tho, WEs are gonna rely so much more on Eternal Guards due to 8th Ed being ****ing retarded as in 60 to 70% of the core gaming lies in mass blockade. Read: EG is WE's only bet in a phalanx war. Incidentally, EG are hideously underpowered in 7th Ed for the most obvious reasons. -.- (which ironically is why WEs are regarded as one of the top tiered shit in 7th)

I have read many a battle report where the organ gun did not win.
And this is also why I play LotR SBG & WotR as the rules do not change between editions, and though the archers are overpowered, you have a limit on them. My one problem with SBG is that it takes a long time to actually kill people if your not an overpowered badass (hero, elf or troll).

@Druid: iirc the issue with the Organ Gun lies in the auto-hit. Barring a mishap roll ofc. But given what you've stated here, I'm not too sure if GW has officially tweaked the shit since ppl are saying it's 100% possible for them to do so. btw, do you know why the OG nvr won in the battle reports you've seen?

It blew up, bad mishap roles.
I do much prefer the LotR, as it's more stable gameplay.

Oh that explains it. The only way for OG not to be labeled as 100% broken bs. I still ****ing hate the auto-hit rule tho. And to think Speed of Asuryan last time round was the gayest shit ever. -.-

Seen the new Vampire Counts? Haven't read the Battle Report yet, but from the descriptions they look extremely powerful.

Well I won't be THAT surprised anyway. 8th Ed has gone mass blockade gay-mode and we all know all the random grunt swarming the VCs are capable of. In fact why ppl say WEs are the worst hit in 8th lies in the very fact that some wonky changes have been done to the Skirmishers so that MSU warfare won't be really that effective. Apparently the rules have been FAQ'ed/Errata'ed for quite some time. But how far the changes will go still remains to be seen. :(

"extremely powerful" is how every single army remake is release from GW ;)

Granted Fantasy is generally better overall than 40K because there isn't one single brand army to get all the attention; Marines in 40K get far more attention and bonuses in general to make them a simple powerhouse (its not totally daft as marines make up something like 40% or more of total GW sales with many being newer, younger players).

Amen there, bro. Apparently, GW has been getting away for clean murder N ages back. The SoA gayness was only part of the equation. The OG bs auto-hit rule is yet another. MSU warfare... dude I can't ****ing go on anymore. -.-' And surprisingly enough, OG has overshadowed SoA. MSU being effective is abt donkey ages back. And last time round, mass blockade hasn't gone gay. -.-'
