they look about the same to me
Thank you Fin.
from that pic, id say its gandalfs riding sword...its weird, cause in the galleries, it seemed like it had a different crossguard...whatever
Wonderful the mistery sword has been discovered. I got my DVD and zoomed in on the sword when Gandalf is dismounting at Isenguard, and they are definetly the same sword. End of discusion, the quillions are the same, cross gaurd is the same, same leather wrap on the handle, same pommel. Congatulations to whoever it was that said it was his riding sword, I have lost track by now. Oh by the way, I am still resolute in thinking that, that is striders eating knife and not some hobbit dagger. First of all in the movie we don't even see her give it to them, and second of all she does,nt in the books. But I cold be wrong :dragon:
im sorry, but you definately are.
in the SEE of the FotR DVD you can see her giving the daggers to them, and somewhere in this thread theres a link to antoher pic of that sword case and there you can see it clearly.
I have not seen them to begin with, so to me it looked like the strider knife oh well. Now I don't think it's elven dagger, but the eating knife that sits along side the scabbard. Anbody else think its a hobbit dagger thing.I am gonna go look again.
Could it be Theodred's sword?
That is definitely a Noldorian dagger given to one of the hobbits. 100% sure. It's not even close to being any of Aragorn's weapons.
Merrick, that sword has positively been ID's as Gandalf's Riding Sword. Théodred's sword would look much more Rohirric.
OK. You've lost me in the talk about the daggers.
sefranox is right elvenblademaster. the gift giving is kinda different in jackson's version of LotR, but the daggers of the noldori are given to pippen and merry. one of their scabbards is pulled out of the (orc corpse) fire by gimli in the two towers.
if that is gandalfs riding sword as you seem to think then could it be from valinor? or maybe a gift of arnor? or of the dwarves? what do you think??
I think it's just a basic sword which is meant to be merely practical
he prob got it in rivendell.
maybe but it isnt elvish
It came with the horse, I can see it now an add in the weekly Gondorian trader
"Good strong horse, for sale able to carry men, elves or wizards swiftly anywhere you want to go, name of horse middle earth express.
Also included good steel sword, full tang leather wrapped handle, and sharp blade, comes with on strapping horse scabbard and harness."
The whole package for just One ring of power.
Add placed by Saruman.
maybe but then how would gandy be riding it?
Maybe he gave saruman a fake ring of power and then saruman in his lust for the ring did'nt stop to throw it in the fire and check. thats why he was P.O. at gandalf.
i think were getting oof topic but oh well and could be
All I'm saying is that the dagger in the display case is one of the Noldorian daggers of Pippin or Merry.
byz and elven - please get back on topic.
The topic is over with Gud we have determined that its gandalf's riding sword( maybe it was just acquired at a yard sale or something) and noldorian dagger. You can be alwful cranky for a sixteen year old LOL take no offense its just me LOL
