Do you support the law against "spreading propaganda" for untraditional sexual relationships and if so, why?
Also, do you feel the need for a law against insulting religion?
If you'd rather answer in a PM or mail, please do so, your opinions would be anonymous.

Non ruskies are welcome to comment on this as well of course.

Yes, I think so as well. Not particularly at muslims but I think the religious pose a lesser threat to a dictatorial ruler than people who call for development and human rights.
I think it's a shame that Russian rule seem to head back to medieval times with such silly laws.

well Putin is a czar already :) these kind of laws are just nuances :)

as far as "untraditional sexual relations" go, there is also huge support from people there... there is much concern lately about some practices in Scandinavian (especially Norway) and UK with taking away kids from parent on really ridiculous allegations... (trust me, been looking at a lot of incidents, and they ARE really being ridiculous) I am myself in a group of people, which fight against these kind of laws to be introduce, and I can tell you, that there is huge propaganda (especially in russian media) blaming gays for that. Stuff like "gays cannot have kids, so they want to take away ours and adopt them" is popping up more and more often and that makes people aggressive towards gays, same sex marriages, etc.

Yes, that's kinda what I feel myself.
    Thanks for the input.
Could you perhaps give some material on those allegations? I must say I haven't heard of them.

You know, I'd like to learn more about this myself. I know the motivation: Putin is set out to "preserve Russian society and tradition", whatever that is after 80 years of communism and centuries of imperialism. But for moves like this, I'm not really a believer of one-dimensional moves. I am not, for instance, sure whether this is an outcrop of totalitarianism - or a more popular, even democratic move. Could it be a move to further cement Edinaya Rossiya into power, if ever it needed that. And if it does, how so? What can possibly be knocking at their door?

For whatever it is, it's certainly a move away from the west, and that is slightly troubling. Even Putin should know that moving his hand like this is also a move on the international political playing field. And what is it? Does he actually feel powerful enough to further distance himself from the power blocks of the EU and the US? Or is it even be a move to bring others closer? And who, exactly?

I'm sorry, Per. More questions than answers :)

Thank you all for your comments, it's a welcome sight to see what others think about this.
That polish rambo seems insanely creepy, I just can't put my finger on it. :D
Turambar - Great input, thanks. No worries on raising more questions. I've been thinking myself along those lines you express.
On a side note, I really recognize that hare you have as a signature from a museum in Berlin, can you tell me who painted that?
