I have been thinking about creating a fantasy world but I can not come up with a fantasy race. Do you have any ideas?

The easy way is to do anthropomorphs like bird-men, lizard-men, goat-men, etc...

You can also scour through old mythologies for ideas. Kobolds (tiny draconic humanoids with tails from D&D) are actually from German myth.

hell, elves and dwarves are also from old mythology (Norse to be exact).

    Hello,
I may have come to late to the party, but I think that if you first imagine your world, the world itself would present you with ideas about who lives there. For example if you world is all swampy and green, you may have a race of humanoids with amphibian characteristics. But if your word is all tall ridges and peaks, a bird-like race like the one proposed by Kelmourne may seem more appropriate. In any case this is a website that may help you
Fantastic Zoology: A Catalogue of Mythical Creatures
because it lists creatures by habitat, so maybe you ca explore that section and find a creature that fits your world as you already imagined it.

Give it a try, I love that website. It's full of really weird creatures and not so commonly available info. It has save me more than once when inspiration was amiss...

I've got the bones of a world where every 'race' is derived in one way or another from either humans or 'deeplords' (sapient octopus that live in underground cave systems and use dark magic).

As for original fantasy creatures, well the D&D gallery archive might provide some ideas.
