This is book 1 in the Dark Disciple series by Margaret Weis. It follows the life of the character Mina from the Dragon Lance 'War of Souls'. Margaret Weis does another spectaculer job of story telling, in this book. Great descriptions and in depth storylines make for an intricate and well rounded plot. As with most of her books I often wish for a bit more action but overall the story is a great start to the trilogy.

The biggest pro to this book is that we get to see inside the thoughts of Mina, something that was (intentionally) lacking in the War of Souls books. We find that Mina is more human than her feats and actions would indicate.
