Hi, I actually have a legal question which some of you artists might be familiar with.

What is the proper procedure for commissioning an artist for some artwork, say a title for a book, or random cafepress merchandise. If you have any information on legal issuess like how to exchange money for said goods and how to prove the copyright was transferred (to avoid being sued by less than honrable people), that would be a great help, thanks!

Any established artist will have their procedures - just make sure to go over every word of the contract. If it's not 100% clear have a legal professional check it on your behalf. Maybe going through an agent would be a good idea?
