Oh my gosh. He hasn't published a book in 5 years. If I get through all the ones he's written before he publishes another one I'll be super mad. But judging by how long things seem to be taking him, it'll probably be another 5 years. I'll be like 80 by the time the last one is out.
    Thoroughly disappointed.
Does the way Feast for Crows is written (with the fact that it has been split into a second book and all the characters put into each book based on geographical location) make it annoying to read?? Thats a strange way to decide how to split your book into two different books... But apparently it was the best way it could have been done.... Opinions everyone??

Did you just finish Game of Thrones? Good God woman! You can't be in these forums, there are spoilers EVERYWHERE.

On the plus side, at least you don't have to wait 5 years for ADwD to come out! That must be nice.

I'm really debating on whether or not to start the next book. I really liked the first one, but such bad stuff happened. Like with Lady, and Ned and Robb soon too (apparently). Makes you sad you know...
Also with the way he is finishing his series it kind of makes you not want to start at all which I might not have if I'd known before. I wish he'd just get off his @$$ and finish already. wtf

Even if I don't have to wait like 5-10 yrs for the Dragon one to come out... I'll still have to wait like 30+ years for the next 3 or however many...
seems like a bad situation all around.

Well just to illustrate how bad things are, I've resorted to reading Terry Brooks' series and many of you will know what I think of his books..... it's all Martin's fault

Pfft you can always shift to reading Malazan Book of the Fallen whilst you wait (First book The Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson) and if you need even more filler you can break out some of Robin Hobbs heafty tombs in the Farseer Trillogy and further works.

As for ASOIAF I'd say read on read on - worst that will happen is you have to wait a little while and you'll kick yourself whilst waiting and lurking near to spoilers - cause you know soon enough you'll open one of the threads and then you'll learn some horrible spoiler! ;)

Well this is my "safe thread" because I made it and you guys can't put any spoilers in here or I'll be very upset. I needed to talk about this book/series. So there!

Yeeeaaah, he's not going to live another 30 years. :(

You should definitely keep reading, Chloe! The best stuff happens in the third book, Storm of Swords.

Yup... you should definitely keep reading Chloe; there may be some emotional scenes but this is an awesome series (and, I've got to say, I kind of envy someone who hasn't yet read A Storm of Swords... brilliant, brilliant book).

Everyone, I think we need to find El something new to read - nobody should have to resort to that! Have you read anything by Juliet Marillier? I hear Brandon Sanderson's new book is rather good, it's on my to-read list... hmm... how about China Mieville?

Thanks :) I've read Juliet's Sevenwaters Series but nothing else. Haven't read anything of China Mieville's at all ~ recommendations?

PS Brooks' hasn't been that bad, I haven't got a lot of spare time of late so the odd chapter here and there has been okay as you don't need to concentrate that hard :D

PPS Chloe, yes read them, ADwD will be out eventually even if it's just to keep up with TV series...

I read Brooks' first book (The Sword of Shannara?) when I was about 13 and had decided that I "liked fantasy books". I ended up learning that, sadly, not all fantasy books are made equally. I never got past that book so maybe he does improve but the LOTR rip-off that is "Sword of Shannara" has left me very wary.

As for Mieville, I've only read a couple of his books but I really enjoyed them. Mieville is one of the most imaginative authors and best world-builders around and his city New Crobuzon is an incredible creation. I'd suggest starting with "Perdido Street Station" which was the first book he wrote set in this world (here's a review that gets some of the atmosphere of the book across). OTOH it is a long book (700-800 pages) so if you don't have much time on your hands you could try one of his shorter books. I'd suggest "The City and the City", which I haven't read yet myself but I've heard good things about.

Woohoo! Congrats Chloe! Clash of Kings/A Dance with Dragons are generally thought of at the least exciting of series thus far, but it's A Game of Thrones...so it's still better than anything else. ;)

Thanks for the recommendation, Lyanna! I may have to check that out too. I'm having a really hard time finding a book that's GOOD. I'm guilty of judging a book by it's cover, certainly. All the fantasy novels I've picked up lately just sound...lame.
