Good clip.. it would be excellent if ASoIaF was to be made into a movie

It was clever how they've taken parts from other films to make the clip ~ I spotted Eowyn & a couple of other Gladiator and LoTR's bits. The end credit score is from Gladiator too.

That is a (very well made) fan trailer for a film that is not in the making at all - its a stitch of different films all put together - wait for the end credits to tell you what films were used (the major part of the music is from the first (new) Narnia film.

As for ASOIAF there is a tv series which is being produced by HBO though I think it is still to start filming and get off the ground - from memory some of the team involved in the Rome series are involved.

^ yeah the TV series is still in the script stage..as in script isn't ready yet.So that would mean its still a 50-50 chance that it'll ever happen.

well its a blooming hard script to write I suspect.
Firstly its about the biggest fantasy after LotR and Harry (sorry but popularity wise he is big)
Secondly its often equated as "The LotR of our age" and thus has a strong act to follow
Thirdly its a very consise series of books so its hard to cut bits out - especially as many will have massive repercussions in later books (something that the Harry Potter film makers are finding out now
Forthly quiet a bit is not words or action but thoughts and understandings. Those are hard to convey to screen unless a narrator is used - and that is not a popular choice for todays films

So its not easy to script, but all indecations are its going ahead - I just hope GRRM has better film luck then Pullman and LeGuin (SP?)

Well that is good to hear! Being in UK we'll get it about 3 years after HBO actually make it, so that means its gonna be about 10 years before I can convince my girlfriend to read/watch ASOIAF !! :)

Yep, this was posted in the ASOIAF section.

If they do infact make a miniseries, it should be good.

Don't be so pessimistic.. as soon as it's hit the US you'll be able to 'acquire' a copy (naturally totally legit). As to your girlfriend, if she won't listen to you either dump her or drug or hypnotise her and feed the books subliminally into her mind  :D

It'd be wonderful if it was a film, but it'd have to hark back to the Hollywood *cast of thousands* era to get all the characters and extras in! And who would you pick to play all the various roles???
I also think It might be a bit too hard to do as a full series of films. I mean, you couldn't get books 3 and 4 into publishable manuscripts as one piece, so how on earth would you make them into one film each?
The Jason Statham one is fan-made too, I only recognised it because it involves a bit of a music video by a band I like hehe.

As to above comment, I don't think it would be too hard to have better film luck than Pullman. The Golden Compass was tragic!

What he mean is that Until now HBO has owned the right to buy it, but now they has actually bought it.
"Options" are a murky hollywood system, where you can reserve the right to have first pick at bying a property, for a certain amount of time.
Now HBO has exercised their option and actually bought the rights to aSoIaF. Which should be good news for everyone who want the series to go ahead.
You can read about it at Georges not a blog.
