    Hi,

I ordered a new UC Hadhafang because my first one developed little cracks in the grip and with the rumors of UC winding down production I wanted to get a "backup".

After I had done my usual modifications of the spikes and angular blade part between handle and lower spike I weighted it and was quite surprised about its weight of 1145 gr.
I remembered it to be heavier and tested now my old one, which came out with a weight of 1300 gr.!

The cause is that they use thinner material for the blade now.
The old one is 6 mm thick (which is slightly less than 1/4 " as stated on the box).
The new one is between 4.7 and 4.8 mm (which is exactly 3/16 ").

I consider this quite an improvement and UC should have adverticed that.

If you put both swords side by side the difference is quite discernible.

Another difference is that the hollow ground part on the backside of the blade is now longer which is also an improvement, because it is the same on the original movie prob.

(The difference in the finish is because I repolished my first Hadhafang completely, which looks so much better IMHO, but I didn't dare to do it on the second one yet, because it was such a pain to polish the hollow ground part by hand.)

I must say that you are right. The second sword looks much better.

The second one? I thought the first one was the one he "tuned"...?

(Andreas, you've probably seen my reply on the "other forum".)

I have heard of the different versions of the UC1298 Hadhafang.
Apparently, the original prop boasted a 7.0mm thick blade. UC began producing their replica with 6.0mm stock, reducing the weight along with the thickness. After a while they started using 5.0mm stock, further reducing weight. It turns out it was easier for them to get 5.0mm than 6.0mm. Very few collectors notice the difference anyway, because most of us only buy one!:D
