Minas Tirith's defenses

Well, they sucked! From the Anduin to the city's walls there was no obstacle to stop the Mordor army. The huge siege towers could of been at least slowed down if not fully stoped by a simple ditch, for Christ's sake. On the river's banks, where the orcs landed, there wasn't a single defensive position, no palisades, tranches, spikes, traps, nothing. What the hell the people of Gondor were thinking?????

Re: Minas Tirith's defenses

One word: Denethor.

Kinda frustrating, because they were way more prepared in the book, but it had to be a desperate fight. Makes for a better movie.

Re: Minas Tirith's defenses

Yeah, but the fight didn't start during Denethor's reign, it was much older. In the movie is kinda dissapointing to see the Pellenor Field flat as a sheet of paper, without a trace of defensive positions. Even a blind rat could of gotten to the walls without even breaking a sweat

Re: Minas Tirith's defenses

Well, there was the Rammas Echor, but that doesnt seem to have been included in the movie.

Re: Minas Tirith's defenses

The city was the defensive fortification. The entire point of those walls were that if you secured a breech of the virtually impenetrable gates you had to fight your way down narrow streets against defenders who always had tactical advantage.

It was the conceited act of defending the indefensible that got most of the Gondorian army killed in the first place. They had expected to hold the attackers at the Anduin but were overrun swiftly.

Yeah, but they had like 1000 miles of plain infront of the city, they could of done something with it. And what kind of fortification is that without a moat??

Lady Dark Moon will become famous, soon enough!
Re: Minas Tirith's defenses

they weren't expecting Sauron to gain power so quickly. apparently Minas Tirith has never been defeated before, unless I'm mistaken. so the people in the city grow naive and besides the steward's a damn loser - what can you expect?

Re: Minas Tirith's defenses

Besides, Minas Tirith was only breached once in its history. Compare that record to most defensive structures in Europe.
