Clone Wars Volume 2!!! I've seen it!!!

I had the opportunity to go to the Egyptian Theater in Holywood this weekend and see the entire second volume of The Clone Wars animated show. It premieres this week on the Cartoon Network (every night at 7 pm).

The American Cinemateque Society was doing a 2 night tribute to animator Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Samurai Jack and the man behind Clone Wars). They showed some of his influences, some Samurai Jack cartoons, and the first volume Clone Wars on Friday night. On saturday night they showed the second volume. I went, mostly to see the CLone Wars stuff but I stuck around to hear Genndy answer some questions afterwards. He said that Lucas likes the first season so much he asked if Genndy would be willing to do another season. Genndy was hesitant so basically he offered to let him animate the events from the opening crawl of Episode 3.

And that's what he did. The events take you from the end of the last volume up to pretty much moments before Episode 3. IF you liked CLone Wars Vol. 1 this is even better!! They actually show Anakin's Jedi Knighting! (can't believe he left that fro Genndy, pretty much an honor I would think) and a bunch of Anakin's battle exploits to show how renowned he is. Yoda does some amazing stuff. Amazing!! Like pushing two droid landing craft together with the force causing them to crash and explode. All you Mace Windu fans will love to see the stuff he pulls off in the Battle of Coruscant. He rides a droid fighter like a combo surfboard/animal around the sky taking out other droid fighters! You see more Greivous stuff like him training to lightsaber fight with Dooku. You see Greivous' guards with the lightsaber proof staffs. There's a side adventure with Obi Wan and Anakin where Anakin goes on a bit of a vision quest, learning of his future (sort of), and then liberates a planet from the Techno Union's experiments after releasing a bit of his dark side. The season ends right before Obi Wan and Anakin's fleet jump into hyperspace to return to Coruscant to fight the invasion fleet. Which is how Episode 3 begins.

Even if you don't read the spoilers, if you are a big Star Wars, you shoud watch these shorts next week. They will give you all the info up to the movie NOT TO MENTION they are incredibly animated, have a great story, and have the most awesome Jedi and battle action I have seen!!

Cartoon Network. 7 pm. Every night this week. Starting tonite. March 21st. They are shorts. Like 10 minutes long. SO don't get disappointed.

wow, no one lese cares? this is important info. these shorts take you right up to the movie!

I've seen it too...I like the lines Qui-Gon and Anakin say from the OT! especially the one from Anakin, it's very funny.

the whole thing? or just last night's episode?

that whole scene was a bit confusing. i guess it is supposed to be a vision Yoda has but since it isn't really explained...[shrugs]

there was a first volume that ran last year that consisted of 2 seasons. 10 episodes then, maybe 6 months later, 10 more. I call it one season but apparently other people don't.

Those are the episodes that came out on DVD today.

This is a new second volume ordered by Lucas. It takes the story right up to the movie.

I've seen episode 21,22 and 23 until now.

makes sense. those were the only ones completely finished. 4 and 5 still had audio mixing left and 5 still needed some re-takes from Korea. funny, considering they only had a week left.

SO are they going to release the second part on DVD bofore Episode 3 hits theatres? It would be nice to be able to sit down and see the whole thing in one shot especially if its a bunch of 10 min shorts.

i doubt it. it usually takes a while for things to be brought out on DVD. especially if there is commentary or special features.

The commentary tracks need to be recorded. The special features need to be either produced or edited. Then the whole thing needs to be encoded and pressed into dvd's. it takes a while to do. i don't think they could get it done before May. especially since they were still working on the new episodes as of saturday.

i'd say just check cartoon network's schedule for the next time the play them. i'm sure they will play them near the movie's release and tape them. or get a friend with cable to tape them for you.
