So Near and Yet So Far

You are so very near, yet so very far away
I am almost able to touch you
You know from you, I would never stray
Being with you I am always happy, never sad and blue.


I feel you right beside me, your warmth so near to me in the bed
Me knowing now, I was just being silly and dumb
I know from me, my love, you will never flee
Together since grade school, being parted from you, oh what a tremendous sum.

We face life, together each day, hand in hand
The vows from long ago, I cherise the same to this very day
Our love as infinite, as our wedding bands
Forever, by your side, to work, to love, to play

Together, no obstacle too big, too small
Challenges, together we overcome, never thinking one is too big
To walk beside you I always feel so tall
But then, I am awakened, I think by the sound of a cracking twig.

I sit up in bed, realizing I have had another dream
Knowing now you are not really here, in the night sky now you are a star
Again in my dreams, I was walking on a moon beam
