Sexual innuendos and subliminal messages

Just the other day I saw a shoe advertisement that had a girl in a bikini crawling on the floor; I thought to myself…”What the hell does this have to do with a tennis shoe?”. Sexual innuendos are even present in some of our children’s cartoons, as well as subliminal messages.

What would you suggest the function or the... greater cause of these "subliminal messages" would be? I can only see that the old Proverb "sex sells" holds true.

As to the first picture, I'm not too sure the subliminal image of a woman masturbating will influence you in any way untill you have seen the picture as you have show it. Also note that it's not entirely sure the artist meant to include this image in his/her picture - or that the advertiser meant anything by it.

It took me a while to find the fallus you pointed out in the Little Mermaid but again, I can only say that this might as well be a coincidence. What would Disney gain in the including of this fallic tower in one of their cartoons?

Anyway, if you feel that these images have been misinterpreted, then I respect that.


My point is that these kind of advertisements as well sexual innuendos are being sold to us and our children in sugar coated packages, but for what, I honestly don't know. Does anybody else notice this?

Your right Drac. There are alot of sexual innuendos in everything just about. Now, its not a conspiricy but they just like to do it.
There are a ton in disney cartoons, why? I have no clue.
They use the excuse "sex sales" when they use it to sell products, but I for one dont fall for it. Hell, if anyone thinks that sprayin on Axe, or Tag is gonna get a horde of women to rape you then you need mental help to begin with.

I had heard about the Disney one a long time ago. I was told that the artist who did the cover/movie poster had changed the picture of the castle at the last minute because they were having conflicts with someone abover them and wanted to get back at them. I have no idea how true that really is though.

And all the adds now seem like they have sex in them somewhere. I have a three year old, and having her see some, even if she does not know what they mean still irratates the hell out of me.

Unless it's advertising a kids' toy or something. What is it advertising? And where was it from? Sometimes sexy messages are "appropriate" considering what they're selling. If it's advertising something in Ralph or FHM, that's obviously different to advertising on Nickelodeon or a Dolly magazine.

As for the Disney stuff - I'd say that's more a bunch of rogue animators trying to see who can sneak in the naughtiest stuff they can. Apparently there are potatos and jogging shoes in the asteroid field in Empire Strikes Back. Movie crews regularly sneak little things into footage as inside jokes for themselves to enjoy.

Okay as everyone else has stated sex does sell. Look at the strip clubs and the pornos that are sold yearly - heck daily. In some peoples mind sex is the way to get out of their problems, or in some cases being to have problems. Sex is a top hit at newstands. Look at Playboy for instance, how many thousands of copies are sold daily. Yes it is sad that our society needs Sex to get throughout a day but that is how society works. Indeed it is messed up but what can you do...? Just do your best to not let it worry you and move on. And in regards to the disney movies I'm not looking for the hidden Sex messages. Sure they were a big debate about it but look at Disney - they are the biggest franchise for children. The movies, books, theme parks, t-shirts, and even video games. Above all Disney's purpose is to make people happy and of course fill their pockets with money. Oh well...I'm just rambling now. Hope this made some sense.

The whole sex sells thing is a psychological ploy in advertising, my intoning the basic desires of the Id to sell the product. People will sometimes add in subliminal messeges of certain primal urges such as sex and thus by classical association use the desire that your subconcious has for such things and transfers it onto the product. So instead of just wanting a product for the benefit it provides, it becomes more of a subtle primal craving.

It's not sad at all. Sex is an expression of love-one of the most basic needs of all humans is physical contact, social interaction, and acceptance. For consenting adults sex can fullfil this function. Especially for married couples sex is verry important in holding the relationship togather and expressing love to one another.

The need for sex isn't sad or a problem, rather the ways in which some people fulfill this basic need through porno and meaningless relationships and also how sex is exploited for financial gain are the things that are sad and problematic.

Personally though, I love my fiancee, and when I'm married I hope to never have to get through my day with out a little help from sex
