Re: Medieval Castles near you
The Keep looks nice.I wish more of it could be scene.Great Britain has a lot of beautiful castles from what I know and so does France. It's really amazing that so many castles have survived there.

Re: Medieval Castles near you
From sweden this offer comes: I can see the ruins of Rånäs Castle from my window and of course we have the Circle Wall of Visby on Gotland, but I think that doesn't apply since its offshore from me:-)

Re: Medieval Castles near you
I don't live near it, but I've been to Castle Cornet in Guernsey enough times. Its stood since like, the 1200's, and its still there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Cornet Nearest me are the remains of an ancient British Hillfort. Basically big circular dips and mounds.

I've been to Rochester Castle, it's about eight miles away from my home town, takes the train about half an hour to get there.
There's not much to it, it's basically just a shell these days, but they really bring the medieval period to life. ![]() On bank holidays during August they hold jousts, falconry displays, sword fights, it's quite a fun day out. ![]() |

Re: Medieval Castles near you
I've been to quite a lot of castles, but I've forgotten all their names apart from one, that I've been to twice here in Belgium; Le Chateau de Bouillon.

Re: Medieval Castles near you
The most impressive castle I've been to defensively is Dover, Bodium is very pretty but not very defendable (arguably not actually a castle), Rochester has some amazing history!
