No. I'll respond to this thread despite the fact that you're probably long gone; the basic premise is so off-kilter it deserves some kind of comeback. Dragons have been in the art and culture or civilizations around the world almost since the very beginning. so, yes, they do exist, if only in our hearts.

No. They did not exist. If they had, we would undoubtedly have some form of empirical evidence of their existence, which we do not. As to why they are frequently mentioned in the folklore of different cultures, it's quite simple, I think. They were legends that passed through trade and such. The tales are probably original from China or Sumeria or other civilizations that had contact with giant lizards.
