Triwizard tournament!

Do you think that Harry was the best choice for taking part? I do hes the only one that knew lots of defensive spells. What do you think?

I doubt Harry was the best choice for the Tri-wizard tournament. He was too young to know many spells or useful ways around the trials without a lot of help. Truthfuly, Cedric did as well as Harry without all the extra help. Only because he had three more years of schooling to help him. Dumbledor's age limit of 17 was a good idea to make the students knowledgeable about ways around the trials.

I think that your right. But even though why Harry other than yhe experiance?

Nienor 09-10-2003 12:08 AM

Harry was chosen of course because Voldemort & his supporters thought he'd be killed during the tournament. But despite his lack of experience, Harry did rather well. He's very intelligent and resourceful, proving that he was a decent candidate for the tournament.

Any of the witchs and wizards could have learned all the defensive spells. But I do think he was a good choice.

I thought Harry wasn't chosen so much as forced into the tournament so they could use him for the spell that brought Voldemort back at the end.

Anyway, while he may not have been the best choice for the tournament (the extra years of study might have helped) he was a good choice.

Nienor 10-08-2003 07:53 PM

You're correct, Starknight. Harry wasn't chosen to be in the tournament by the goblet. It was a plot of Voldemort's through Crouch's son. Guess he assumed Harry might be inexperienced enough to die during the tournament.

He aquitted himself very well considering his lack of experience and study. Probably would have had an easier time with the challenged during his last year at school.

Haryy did have help and his name was put in the goblet because Barty Crouch put it in to make sure that he took the port key in the centre of the maze to the grave yard were he helped to revive Voldermort but of course he was not intending to.

Re: Triwizard tournament!

His lack of experience really shows though. All of the other contestants dont seem to have a (big) problem with most of the tasks. Harry seems to need help from almost everyone to think of how to approach the challenges

Re: Triwizard tournament!

Yes, his inexperience did show, since hes only had 4 years experience in the wizarding community. He didn't really know what he was supposed to do or how he was supposed to do it. This book shows how Harry can be vunerable, but he is not one to be underestimated. Harry was decepted and manipulated by a lot of people in this book.
