Hiya! I'm back after some time in the wilderness. I decided not to mope about and feel sorry for myself, so here I am again, popping up like a bad penny.:p

I read fantasy for enjoyment - that's it. I'm not interested in minute details. If an author feels like explaining something, fine. If he doesn't, I'm not going to join a debating society to figure out why he left stuff out. As long as I'm entertained for a few hours, that's all I really care about.^^

Yep, this is the only one. Like you say, some of the other forums can be quite highbrow, and I'm not geeky enough to know every single detail of every book I've ever read, such as what Frodo had for breakfast before he joined the Fellowship etc.:)

Yeah, something's going on. I noticed yesterday that not even the mods appeared until quite late in the evening. Not sure what the reason is...<.<

I'll probably change it back to Mordor soon enough - I'm quite fickle.

I'm a Napoleonic Wars buff when I'm not reading fantasy, and I'm going through a Cossacks stage at the moment...:D

I couldn't agree with that sentiment more! I've gone through a whole swathe of 'em, and each one has been about as much use as a chocolate teapot. I know they're not all so useless, but I seem to have hit an unlucky streak in that regard...

      Thanks.:D

I haven't been diagnosed with anything, but that's the problem. I've been seeing doctors for years with my intestinal woes, and they've been unable to diagnose precisely what it is, nor offer any treatment. From what I've read about the symptoms, I suspect gluten may be the problem. I'll cut it out of my diet and see what happens. If it seems to help I'll go and get tested specifically for that. Hopefully it'll get sorted and give me one less thing to whinge about.:o

I'm just taking things easy - my health isn't so hot, so I'm just chillin' and trying not to worry too much.:D

No, been a bit busy I'm afraid. I'm normally only on this at work and sometimes work takes over :(

Yes, but it works fine with a simple word processing program. It's only more complicated things it can't do. That doesn't really bother me, though. TFF is really the only site I visit with any regularity, along with BBC News and Reuters etc, so I don't need a superfast computer.:)

My PC's too decrepit to watch anthing. It takes about five minutes for a 30-second piece to load, play, then there's a pause for another five minutes, and so on. I'd rather pull out my own teeth than use it to watch programmes. It's also why I can't watch any of the Youtube clips posted on this site - too frustrating.^^

As for Gemmell, you're right. His passing was a sad loss for the fantasy community. He was better than most.

lol! I've never been called that before! I'm a big fan of Gemmell, too. I remember buying Legend when it was published back in the mists of time, and I was blown away by it. Waylander, too, is on my list of Top 10 fantasy books. As for the good Doctor, I don't own a tv, so I have to wait for each series to be released on DVD, which means I'll miss the new one when it comes out. I'm still not sure if that's an entirely bad thing...:p (Come back, Colin Baker, all is forgiven!!!)

Yep, big fan of Abercrombie. I only recently got into his books, but he makes a refreshing change from a lot of the fantasy out there. Some critics are quite sniffy about him, but he provides an enjoyable read, which is the most important thing.:D

As for Ray Bradbury, he's a one-off. In all my years of reading I've never found an author who matches the tone of his work. There's something indefinable about it. He's definitely one of a kind.
