How to make Faramir's Chest Plate?

Any tips? Anyone telling me its not a chest plate at all? Anything?
I'm new to all of this.

It isn't a plate, seems more like a jerkin. Probably 4oz leather at the most. I had a nice picture page for it bookmarked but I can't find it now.

Does anybody have a good pattern for making Faramir's leather chest plate/jerkin? I followed Calarustithil's link but the page isn't there any more. I really want to make this, can anybody help me out with patterns? And advice for tooling the silver tree?

I took the cheap way out and got my mom to draw in metallic sharpie the white tree...
