I made a tablet of leather with an elvish alphabet on it last year in art. This year I hope to make some bracers and perhaps a pair of leather gauntlets, based on a pair that I made out of duct tape.

So anyone else done any leatherworking? I quite enjoy it.

For my art class at school, we're doing a project on Leather Tooling, so I'm gonna buy some bracers and put the Boromir/Aragorn Bracer design on them.

Sefranox, what kind of armour did you make? Any pics you can upload to the Gallery?
I took some decent photos of a re-enacting mate in his leather lamellar. I'll upload the photos to the Gallery tonight if I get a chance.

All our gear is made within the group. The mesh-faced helm is for playing Combat Archery.

i made a leather armour with little metal pieces riveted on it, but i dont like it any more, its like running around with a big mirror on your stomach and back :D.

those armours are really cool, but a lot of work, too.

i`ll see if i can take some pics of things i made.

Waenlotien, the guy who made the leather lamellar (then sold it to the guy in picture) should be at training this weekend. I'll try and pick his brains and will get back to you. If I don't reply in a week, PM me to remind my leaky brain :-)

Waenlotien, here is what my friend replied about making that leather lamellar:
"After I cut my lames out I tub dye them in Raven Oil. Make sure they are soaked, there are so many preservatives in the dye you never need to oil the leather. Just buff it once you've built it by wearing an old tunic when you first fight.
The original dug up design has 7 holes per lame, it sucks to do, I went 8 on my second suit and it cuts down on time and effort.
I made a lame holder so I could drill the holes about 7 lames at a time, I 'll never punch them again."

I will PM you his email address if you have any further questions.

You should cover the parts on the chest with more leather Sefronax, that would make it cool looking, and that is what some very succesfull empires did sometimes.

thanks for the tip, i`ll have many changes on that armour in the near future.
its like running around with a big mirror in front of you, so i`ll cover all the metal pieces with leather, but im not sure at the moment what thickness and colour i should use...

I would use a thin type of leather, for flexebility.

yeah, i think so, too. i guess i`ll use thin, black and not-shiny leather to cover the whole armour, and i`ll replace the shoulder parts made of metal by leather ones (the metal pieces really hurt when somebody hits you ...).
