k heres the thing. I'm on a budget and have just about spent everything I can on leather and various hardware so my question is what tools would I HAVE to have in order to do some runes in leather? It wouldn't have to be fancy just the runes and maybe a border of some kind that fits the runes I will use. it'll be one of these:

maybe something else if I find something better. I want it to look good but I can't spend alot of cash on whatever I would get.

I can't remember the name of the tool itself, but I'm thinking probably just the basic tooling stamp, a sharp knife to draw the design, and a wooden or rubber mallet. Then you stamp along the line, depressing one side of it and giving it definition and depth.
Have you tooled leather before? Don't forget to wet (case) the leather, goes like wet clay, you don't have to hit as hard either. Just light taps. If you've got some offcuts, practise on those first. Short, repetitive, even, light taps of the hammer, walking the tool half its width every tap. Takes a while but looks cool when done.

does it kinda look like a spoon and they come in different sizes and types? I have only done like rudementry designs really just with a slightly pointed dowel.
This is for that same segmented suit that I had another post on so I would want everything to match the style. It will kinda end up looking kind reptilian while (hopefully) still retaining unique quality. I never did draw it out though, lol. I do have the pieces though and will post a pic of them when I get some batteries for my camera.
Does anyone know of some good places to get tooling designs for armor?

I've never seen a site for "tooling designs for armor" specifically.
I do have a folder of images I've seen through the years with cool ideas for armor/costuming. When I see something I like, I save it for future reference.
Any image can be tooled though. If you like... try searching for tattoo designs, the simple tribal and or black & white ones are close to what you can accomplish with leather tooling.

So yeah I am all ready to make my armor but still have yet to find a tooling pattern that I like and I can't draw for crap so thats out.
CB you still have those patterns you were talking about? They would be very helpful for me right now. Anyone else who has any feel free to post them too. Maybe we can make a tooling pattern tread outta this! :)
